What would you do...

So my son is 5 and my daughter is 4 as well as a 2 year old daughter. They have been getting into everything. I have child locks on things I dont want them in but they found out who to open them. Im just at the last of rope.. perfume medicine the fridge dumping food everywhere tearing up there mattresses.. my son just screams at me that he didnt do it but he is the only one that can open the locks my daughter can't.. im just so lost.. I have tried telling them that it hurts my feeling when they get into stuff and that it could really hurt them if they get into medicine especially if they're baby sister gets into any of it. We've tried timeouts. We've tried getting my son to go outside and run a couple laps, I'm just so lost. I feel like im ffailing.. and so if you have any advice or something that would be helpful

Are you sure that your son is the one opening it? Because both of mine know how to open all the child looks we have. And my second figured that out shortly after turning 1 by watching her sister 🙃

As for medicine you could look into a lockable cabinet or storing it high. Otherwise it is mostly about repetition of explaining the danger etc. Unfortunately it takes quite some time for them to understand it

It really might not be your son my mom would punish me and my sister for drinking all the juice in the fridge saying my brother couldn’t open the fridge or drink and one day she was sitting on the couch and heard something in the kitchen and it was my 2 year old brother with the fridge open chugging milk and she felt so bad. Also can you baby gate up? I baby gate the entire kitchen off and bathrooms and bedrooms

What kind of locks do you have? Changing the type might make a difference. You can try taking toys away or you can try more structured toys like tv games that get them all active at the same time. Sounds like they’re bored. My 2 and 3 year old start getting into stuff when they get bored and it’s usually when I’m around the house doing chores.

Kids don’t really respond to the “feelings” talk the way a lot of people think they do. What is the reason for the behavior? Are you giving more attention when he breaks this rule? Maybe he wants your attention. Does he desire the items he can’t have? Maybe put it up high or out of sight (out of mind). Boredom? Look up easy games to set up ahead of time for independent play.

Explain the boundary 1 time. “When you do (this), then (that) will happen”. Make him repeat the rule. "Listen carefully."
"Can you repeat what I said?"
“Now tell me what happens when you disobey?”

Now you know he understands. No excuses not to do a consequence which can depend on several factors. Time outs can be very effective but only under very specific circumstances.

After the consequence, Put the responsibility back on HIM. “Was that a wise choice?”
“What do you think should happen next time?”

Personally I absolutely would not tolerate the yelling. “I listen when you speak respectfully. Try again”

Try listening sticker chart! It’s important to stay positive and encourage positive behavior. Tell them if they listen they will get a sticker. The sticker will equal rewards if they don’t listen they lose a toy anytime they don’t listen. Pick up a toy say bye your last playing time with this toy for not listening and put it up high.
Encourage them to close the doors that’s what I had to do with my son when he learned how to open the child locks, I was taught to encourage him to close them and put more emphasis on him, helping me out, closing the doors, the trash everything that worked for me however every child is different.

On this weeks episode of “what did I do to make my toddler mad”

5. I wouldn’t let him eat cat food

4. Wouldn’t give him the ball back after he threw it at his little brothers head ( toddler turns 2 next month and baby brother is 7 months old and was in his bouncer. Yes he got revenge later when toddler tried to hug him and he pulled toddlers hair and laughed 🤦🏻‍♀️😂🤦🏻‍♀️)

3. I didn’t let him throw out the dirty diaper

2. I made him get dressed after his bath and he couldn’t run around naked

1. He drank his entire cup of lemonade and was mad at me because it was empty 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Picture is from his nap on the couch ( he has made great use of my pregnancy pillow to nap with and yes I have to put the plushies around him or he won’t sleep. They have to be organized a certain way and god help me if we ever loose his Cookie Monster plushie ) I’m already planning on going back to sea world just to get 3 more in the Sesame Street area because I’m scared he’s going to loose it or somehow get it dirty and he will not nap or go to bed without it🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Partners who work long hours

Hi! I’m wondering how moms juggle it all and still find fulfillment in daily life if they have a partner who works all the time. I’m a FTM of a 3 month old and my husband works 13-16hr days, his days off are far and few between and they often could change at the last minute. During his working days he doesn’t see her other than one of the middle of the night feeds he helps me with which I’m super grateful for. We don’t have family near by for help and mother helpers/Nannie’s in our area are about $36/hr which is out of our price range at the moment but I’m finding myself extremely drained and I know it’s only the beginning. I’m thinking of military spouses, spouses of Doctors and Chefs etc. how do you all do it? I’d love some pointers ❤️

Weening baby and judgy grandparents

My little one is 8 months old and she has been weening since 6 months. She still only really eats puree or blended down food. She will eat little snack puffs and she can eat banana if cut up enough but she isn’t on solids so to speak yet. All I get from both grandparents is “she should be eating this by now” “she should be eating toast and pancakes” “she’s hungry and your not feeding her” . Honestly it’s getting to me. My little still doesn’t know how to chew properly yet so I’m very anxious of choking. Is anyone else going through this?
