What’s everyone’s opinions with partners not helping in the night because they’re working?

Currently tripple feeding because of baby’s weight, had on going issues with this for months now. It’s draining & It would be really nice to have some help.

I give the breast, then pump and give a bottle of breast milk, then wind her, the change her nappy, then a bottle of formula, then wind her again, then I try to leave her sitting up for as long as possible so she doesn’t get a bad tummy/allow her a chance to poop (she’s never been able to poop laying down for some reason) & then try to settle her & rock her back to sleep (that’s if she doesn’t need her nappy changing again)….The whole process can take me HOURS.

We have had quite a difficult baby from the start. From about 6 weeks old her wake windows were 5-8 hours long and when she does sleep, it’s only 1-2 hours. She doesn’t give me long stretches. I’ve noticed in her baby classes, a lot of people’s babies accidentally fall asleep…my baby has never done that. It takes me like an hour of rocking and patting her. My mum also said when we were babies she could put us down on the play mat and we’d just fall asleep. My girl just is not like that. So after ALL of the feeding…getting her to sleep is a mission. She’s always so wide awake and alert, I’ve tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is her sling. So I use this during the day time but obviously not at night.

My partner wakes up at about 5am for work.
I end up staying awake from that time too to be honest because most of the time baby won’t go back to sleep. I also have early morning appointments to attend etc. Obviously due to baby not sleeping well I can’t just “sleep when the baby sleeps” during the day. I can’t lay down and sleep when she’s in the sling. And if I get her out of the sling she wakes up. I don’t think my partner understands.

I’ve asked him for help endlessly and explained that I’m barely sleeping & he always says “yeah that’s the way it should be because you’re off work & im not”.

If I had a straight forward baby that I could breastfeed for 20-30 mins then go straight back to sleep then I wouldn’t mind.

This situation makes me want to be one & DONE. He talks about having another baby one day and I’d love to, but all I can think about is how easy he has it yet all he does is complain. But I can’t say anything because he always seems to have it worse than me just because he’s working. Although this man gets long lunch breaks, is home by 3pm, naps in the afternoon/evenings because yet again I always have baby. He doesn’t have the baby when he’s home. He gets many breaks and many sleeps. I don’t.

But I’m in the wrong if I ask for help and now I kinda don’t want it because he says that’s the way it should be. So if he does help now I’ll just feel guilty and feel wrong.

First of all looking after a baby IS WORK! 24/7 backbreaking work! I hope you told him off when he said that.
I can’t speak for everyone but my husband comes home at 6 pm. 6 pm to 8 pm is my baby free time but I will still be tidying up and eating dinner etc. During that time he plays with her, gives her wash and does the bedtime routine, I breastfeed her for the night then baby sleeps between 8 and 9 pm. When baby wakes up the first time usually at midnight my husband feeds her with a bottle. Then she wakes up around 2 am and 3 am and I take over from there. If my husband has meetings at work or he is going through a super busy time then I take care of baby the whole night.
During the weekends, I do the feedings and my husband does the diaper changes, putting baby to sleep and cooking.

You need to stop asking and explaining since it’s not working. Just sit down and list the roles he is supposed to start taking. Also he is not supposed to “help” , its his child too.

I have always done all the nights as my partner works and although i agree that being a mum is a 24/7 job , i do understand that if we’ve had a bad night, we can choose to have a quieter day at home, if we have nothing on, while i’m on mat leave, whereas he does not have that choice.
I went through triple feeding with my boy when he was a newborn and remember it being so difficult. There are lots of helplines you can ring if you need someone to chat to or wanting some advice. It got easier for me and i hope it will for you too

We also struggled with weight and had to triple feed when my little girl was a newborn. My partner also works but has always done the nappy change in the night. During the triple feeds, he would sometimes give the bottle - not always but if i was extra tired he would. Regarding your partner finishing work, the ideal thing would be for him to come home and give you a break for 1-2 hours so you could maybe catch up on some sleep or literally just do nothing and have you time. I know you have probably done all this anyway but try and speak to him about parenting is needed from both of you, you are both dealing with completely different ends of the spectrum- he is working but you are keeping a tiny human alive 24/7 and arguably that is much harder work!! I hope that you can come to an agreement that helps you🤞. Always here for a chat as well if you need

I think it’s absolutely pathetic. Why he thinks his life doesn’t have to change is beyond me. Of course he should help. I had a similar sounding baby and if my partner had done this I would’ve had a breakdown. Please don’t just wait for this to get easier, something needs to change.

I do all the nights as my partner works shift and I breast feed but when he has days off he does 80% of nappy’s and he will clean. He also wakes up at 5 then does a 12 hour shift then comes home walks the dog and sometimes makes tea if I’m feeding it’s just what works for us

With my little one we worked as a team, my hubby works long hours running his company and has a very manual job. But when he was home he always worked as a team. Looking after a baby is also a full time job as well. It was hard on both of us but I never felt along. Baby no.2 is due in Dec and I’m confident my hubby will be with me to help/support as much as he can. This time we do have a next to me cot so I’m hoping to do more through the night on my own and let hubby sleep (last time was a 70 hour labour/emergency c section so I needed lots of help) he then usually gets up with lil one and goes for a dog walk so I can get a lil bit on duty proper sleep. I have told him he is on night time nappy duty tho! X

Sleeping

My 7 month old baby girl likes to sleep at the top of the cot on her belly with bum in the air which is not an issue. However, she keeps banging her head on the board when she’s moving in her sleep. Has anyone had this issue and knows if there are any bumpers or anything that we can put in the cot to prevent her getting hurt?
We have had a look on Amazon but can’t seem to find anything.

I’ve attached a picture of how she sleeps.

Thank you!

Its gets better

Just for anyone in the newborn trenches struggling or wondering what the hell have I done to my life.. My baby is 8.5 months and omg it gets so much better!!
I can finally do some dishes and laundry while he shuffles around on the floor babbling away to me.
I found newborn stage so so hard and just wanted to let anyone who is struggling know it gets so much more fun and enjoyable!

Frustrated mama

I’m reaching out to see if any other moms have experience with toddlers who may have ADHD, and if you have any advice on how to manage constant tantrums and meltdowns.

My son will be 3 in February, and lately I’ve been really struggling with his behavior. It feels like he has a meltdown over EVERYTHING, sometimes over things that don’t even seem to have a reason. There’s very little downtime, and I feel like I can’t get anything done without constant screaming, yelling, or a tantrum.

I understand that toddlers have big emotions and are still learning how to regulate them, but this feels like more than the typical toddler tantrums. The frequency and intensity are becoming really difficult to manage, and the usual parenting techniques and strategies I’ve tried just don’t seem to work for him.

I’ve been trying to get him help because I genuinely suspect he may have ADHD, or something else going on developmentally, but I feel like my concerns aren’t being taken seriously, and I still haven’t gotten the guidance or support I need.

If you’ve been through something similar with your little one, especially if they were later diagnosed with ADHD or something else, I would really appreciate hearing your experiences. What helped with the meltdowns? What strategies actually worked for your child? Were there any resources, evaluations, or services that helped you?

I’m open to any genuine advice, recommendations, or support. I just want to help my son and figure out what he needs. 🩵
