Hi everyone. My baby girl was born on 25th September at 34 weeks (she was 5lb 5oz) and we spent a couple weeks in hospital afterwards. Initially for the first 7 days she was tube fed and we were discharged triple feeding, so I breastfeed (have only had success with a nipple shield 🙃) then I top up with 45ml breastmilk afterwards and then pump. This is not sustainable long term but I guess I'm just looking for any success stories from doing this?!? I don't really know what to do, she doesn't transfer milk very well whilst breastfeeding as every feed takes a good half hour per breast (if I manage to get her to latch) and then she needs the top up after. It all feels a bit pointless using the nipple shield but she is completely reliant, has anyone managed to wean their little one off? I went to a breastfeeding clinic locally and found it a bit stressful so don't really want to go back (I just had a lady trying to shove my boob in her mouth for 20 mins without a shield whilst she screamed hysterically). I don't really know what to do and just feel like I need some reassurance to bin it all off and transition to formula maybe? Or shall I wait it out??
She will be 4 weeks on Friday and is now 5lb 14oz (up from 5lb 5oz).
Sending hugs to all you September mums 😄 xxxx

Has she been checked for ties? My son had a lip tie that was completely missed and by that point he was much happier with breastmilk from a bottle.
I would let her feed with the shield so she isn't as angry and then try and take it off mid fed when you've already had a letdown and milk is already flowing

Most likely has a tie or lip tie as it's easier to latch on a shield than nipples.

I wasn't triple feeding, but fed with nipple shields with my eldest, weaned off them around 6-8 weeks I think, with help from a lactation consultant, it was 4 years ago, but I think the advice was start the feed with them and remove them half way through

I transitioned from nipple shields to breast with my first born at about 3 months old. He had a tongue tie and was combi fed (I had issues with supply). The advice I got was to offer breast every time before nipple shields. However, it was my first baby and I struggled understanding how to latch - my breasts and nipples are quite big. I found online this 'sandwich' method and it really helped but also I think my baby just got old and big enough to take it. They do get frustrated and can cry struggling to latch in the beginning.

With my first I weaned from the nipple shield at 9 weeks by taking it off during the feed and then later trying without and having them as back up in case we need them. We bf for over 2.5 years!

Hey, I used nipple shields for my eldest and in the early days we were also topping up feeds and pumping. As my milk increased he put on more weight and eventually didn’t need to top up or pump so frequently. We continued with the nipple shields for quite some months but other than being a faff it wasn’t really an issue and didn’t impact how much milk he was getting. Eventually weaned off by continuing to take of the shield mid feed.
As a first mum I'm looking at pushchairs and there is so much variety. Can anyone recommend something practical and lightweight thats easy to use please

I’m around 3 months postpartum and feel like breastfeeding has affected me more than I expected. I love the bond with my little boy, but my sex drive has disappeared, and sometimes I feel like I’ve lost a bit of myself. 🥺
I’d love to hear from other mums who’ve experienced this!
💗 Did your sex drive come back while breastfeeding, or only after stopping?
💗 Did you feel more emotional or unlike yourself?
💗 Did anything help, or did things improve naturally over time?
I love breastfeeding and don’t necessarily want to stop, but I’d love to feel more like myself again. ❤️
Any advice or experiences would be really appreciated! 🫶🏼

Health visitor said to reduce so it doesn't ruin appetite for food but just wondering how often others are doing it. Thanks x

Ok so this may sound like a dumb question but what’s everyone doing during colder nights now? So my room is normally around 21-22 degrees, whenever the temp drops below 21 in the house the heating comes on automatically. With a LO now, I’m finding it hard to navigate, and I’m extremely anxious about overheating. So with the heating on, we keep the babies in 0.5 tog sleep sack with vest and sleepsuit. But as the nights get colder I wonder whether I need to put them in a 1.5 or 2.5 tog so they are cosy during the times the heating is off. But it’s never going to be that cold because the heating turns on anyways… I’m so confused and it’s possible I’m over thinking this but hey that’s post partum for you 🤣🤣 I wake up at night scared they’re over heating sometimes and if I go up a tog, my anxiety is going to get worse. But I also don’t want them to be cold. Please help!! Is it normally one or the other, like either have the heating on or put them in thicker sleep sack? Never both?
TIA x

My little one now hates bath time... she breaths really rapid and kicks her legs constantly throughout, she never looks chilled. I took her out early last night because she went red in the face and cried. Nothing has changed, we use one of the bath inserts bevause she hated the sitting up baths when she was new born. Any tips?
