Preschool/prek ?

If you are a SAHM, do you send your 2-3 year old to preschool? I’m genuinely confused because people keep asking me why my not even 3 year old isn’t in preschool yet. While I was working she was in “early preschool” which was literally just daycare. I also keep seeing social media posts of 2 and 3 year olds going to “preschool.” I am a SAHM now, why would I willingly send my 2 year old to daycare and pay money for that, and lose the precious time we have together before she starts school. She has other opportunities to socialize and she is incredibly smart! Maybe societal expectations are changing but my siblings and I didn’t start preschool until 4 and it was only a half day (and free through our public school!) Isn’t it best for our babies to be home with us if possible?

Someone tell me I’m not crazy?! 🙈

I completely hear you and feel the same! It’s so normalised to rush humans into a routine/schedule. I understand toddlers needing to be socialised with kids in similar ages and learn and play. But also, they are still so dependent and impressionable at this age that I’m very selective with who and where my son spends time with. When they are 4/5 years old, different story then.

I will be homeschooling my child but if I didn't have that option I would definitely forego prek. I didn't have it but my brother did. I think it was because my brother had a seperation anxiety issue and my mom wanted to break him of that before school.

Yes it is best for them to stay with us as long as possible, my mil is always talking about my eldest (3) is going to school (she means nursery) but I’m literally home with her brother (2) and I’m pregnant again so will be staying home longer, it’s the normal thing to do but it has been studied that kids should stay with their primary caregiver which is normally mum at least until 3 as it has long term benefits for mental health and attachment style
I do want to home educate my kids which is why I don’t see the point of sending them to nursery, we go to lots of playgroups and I teach them preschool kind of stuff, try not to let what other ppl say bother you or think too much if you want to spend as much time with her now before she starts school x

I’m a SAHM and both of my kids started preschool at around 3.5 years old. They both loved it. It wasn’t daycare, they were truly learning 😊

My son won’t be going to school until 5. We do soccer twice a week (teach sportsmanship), portuguese class twice a week, playdates at least once a week (lately is almost 3 times a week and its busyyy) and once a week we attend a homeschooling community that makes tons of activities and lessons. Learning through play is the most important at this age in my opinion!

Mine is turning 3 in November and just started preschool in September, but it's only 3 days a week, initially it was because we were expecting another and we thought the extra childcare would help with a newborn in the house. I miscarried in April but she's still going to "school", and I have to say she loves it. It isn't like daycare, at least not like the "eyes on kids" sort of daycares we have around here. Pre-K teachers are qualified in Early Childhood Education whereas day care workers don't have to be.

I don't think it's necessary - I'm not concerned with her learning ABCs and numbers or how to write, etc, at this age. They do activities, they create art, they paint, learn about the seasons, holidays, and how to interact with each other. I think it has value for us personally. My daughter is loving school, and we never have separation anxiety issues. She's practicing a lot of skills and learning by leaps and bounds since we started.

Sahm/wfhm with 2 littles home. We just started our 3.5yr old in an outdoor forest school 2 days a week for socialization. Planning on homeschooling and continuing the forest school days until he ages out at 10yrs. He loves to be outside and this gives him 3hrs completely outside with other kids and I get time to work. Win win for us

It’s insane to me. People who have actual pre-schools near them are lucky, because most are just daycare. We’re homeschooling for that same reason. We want more time together as a family.

Oh dominant society wants parents separated from their kids so early. They even encourage it in babyhood with sleep training. Its been the norm so anyone who is opposing your wishes to keep your kids close isnt going to get it. You are not crazy. You are the future of childcare.

Toddler sucking thumb

Pleaseeee be honest because I’ve heard so many contradictions, does sucking thumb mess up toddlers teeth in future? If yes, how do I stop him doing it!?

Feeling deflated

For context I am a fully qualified early years teacher and I am more than competent in teaching and looking after my daughter.
We recently got a confirmation that our daughter can start nursery in 2028. (She will be 2) however I’ve realised I’m not comfortable with this (history of working in nursery’s and knowing what happens behind the scenes) and also I can simply do it all myself and I am happy to.
My husband tells me that he wants her to start nursery then and not stay home and let me care for her because she needs to go to nursery. I don’t understand why he would rather send her to be cared for by random people when I’m a stay at home mum and qualified to do it myself.
I also don’t really see how he gets much of a say in it (outside of just a general opinion) as it doesn’t affect him at all whether she is home with me or at nursery as I’ll be doing it all anyway? And he will be saving money if she doesn’t go…

Parents who have not sent their child to nursery can you comment experiences.

How would you handle this?

Hi mums. I would really appreciate some advice. Sometimes i think i tolerate too much and i would like to find out how other mums would handle this situation. To cut a long story short, my husband works for his friend. Eversince he started working for his friend we have had many disagreements. I support my husband and i want the best for him. He does alot for this job and gets paid a minimum wage. There are other friends in the work place which resulted in my husband coming home late most days as they would spend time together after work or entertaining clients. This friend also opened another business so my husband assists him there at times. This job requires my husband to go on unpaid work trips. I’ve fought with him before mentioning that these work trips are not worth it as he doesn’t get paid for them and we need the finance desperately. What he gets out of it is free flights, accommodation and food. Now these work trips are requiring him to go overseas. I am a stay at home mum that runs her business from home. I contribute in the home where i can. I have 3 children and no help. I attend to everything in the home. My husband is mostly at work or spending time with his friends. I’ve stopped complaining as i’ve tried to rather support him thinking that the financial situation would change but it hasn’t and gone worse. My quality of life has dropped and in return my husband has received the latest phone, a car and expensive clothes from his friend. I feel like my husband is perishing from working for his friend but my kids and i not. I might sound selfish in this post but i am up for hearing how i should handle this. He has recently told me that his friend wants him to go with clients over seas and it’s made me feel sick as it comes with no pay. Are husbands with children out there taking free work trips? Is this a thing? Please note that i am left at home with no help and 3 children and not in a very good financial situation. I’ve never complained but it isn’t easy. I just feel like it isn’t worth it. I’ve begged him to look for a better job where the salary is worth it but he seems comfortable working for his friend. It’s affecting my mental health and i just don’t understand how my husband is going on unpaid work trips??

Feeling pretty down tonight

I am 36 and about to have my 3rd baby. The father and I didn't work out. I'm feeling pretty down about that tonight & idk how to lift myself up from it. I am almost 40 and have never had anyone actually choose me and love me and at this point I dont think I will ever feel that. Each of my kids have different fathers, the first isnt involved at all, the second is sporadically involved, and the third hasn't been there for me throughout this entire pregnancy. He's been around sure, but its only for the baby. He never actually chose to care about me. I'm just tired. Tired of always being dismissed or walked away from. Tired of having to spend this life fighting and surviving. Tired of not having anyone to turn to for support. I have no friends and hardly any family. I just feel so alone. & idk who is going to want me after having three children with three different fathers, plus having a newborn at 36 years old. . I just want it to end already.

Health visitor has recommended for me to start giving my baby lunch. 5/7 days of the week we are usually out when I’ll be giving her lunch. Has anyone got any ideas on what to feed my baby when out?
So far I’ve seen pinwheels, yogurt and fruit ect.
