Different parenting styles

LO is turning 2 and testing boundries and my other half shouts at her to tell her off where as I’d rather explain things so she understands. I then have a go at him for shouting and we end up arguing over it because he thinks I’m too soft. Anyone else have these issues or just me?

In my opinion, we all end up shouting every once in awhile but if his immediate reaction is to shout it’s teaching her that shouting is okay when it’s not. I think your approach to explain things to her is perfect. I would explain to him this behaviour is soo developmentally normal she has to go through this to learn what is and isn’t ok. From my experience as I kid being shouted at every time I pushed a boundary tried to learn what was okay, taught me to be timid when it came to the real world and put me in a lot of stupid situations. It really is that deep when you’re raising a child you have to think 5,10,20 years ahead.

Yes sort of except I think I’m the stricter one, I have to do most of the boundary setting, discipline, telling off etc, whenever my partner sets a boundary he doesn’t follow through, he does shout and he does have the stance of blind obedience which I don’t agree with, my kids are pretty well behaved for the most part and when it’s just been me and them most of the day I have a pretty easy time parenting, after I’ve left them with him they always seem so whiny and misbehaved

I’m in your exact same situation, had the same argument again today. When my son is doing something he’s not supposed to do I try to say no and explain (but he continues to do anyway) so my partner come and shout at him explaining and put him to sit so my son starts to cry. He says he will never learn to listen the way I act/speak to him…everytime arguing for the same thing!

I hope you aren't arguing about the differences in front of baby because that's just makes the whole thing worse.

valid crash out? 🤔

my baby daddy went mad at me as he found out i was ‘using his child maintenance’ to buy nappies from Aldi/Lidl instead of buying Pampers. Valid or is he being as ridiculous as I feel like he is? 😂

Question only for non-UK based mums

I’m Belgian but lives the UK. Everyone around me is taking a week off of work to potty train their child.
As in, they’re using a week of precious annual leave for this, and then they don’t leave the house for days, quite literally locking themselves inside with their kid bum-naked, and « potty train ».
NO ONE does that where I come from. Potty training is seen as a longer, more organic process.

If you’re not British, can you say whether most people take days off to do potty training where you come from / where you live?

Daycare/Nannies

How are you guys handling having to send your kids to daycare or having a nanny?
I’m a first time mom and I’m terrified of anyone watching her but me. My daughter will be four months when I go back to work but with how the world is today and all the viruses and sicknesses I just don’t trust anyone.

WFH and baby

I’m supposed to go back to work soon with a fully remote wfh position. Customer service but with no calls. My baby is absolutely so low management. He can play and spend so long by himself as long as I’m the room and the only fussiness starts during the night or when he s due a feed. I’m still a little worried about it but is anyone in a similar position? How are you handling it and making it work?
