Non Speaking

My Boy just turned 2 in September, my concern is that he still doesn't have any clear words, he points and gestures like hands me his empty bottle or grabs things he wants but doesn't verbally say anything... His hearing is fine I know that, he barely gets screen time either and I am trying my hardest to verbalize everything I do or repeat words when he wants something.. anybody else got this problem or advice?🫠

I don’t know about the states, but here you can self refer to speech and language specialists, for free. Idk if that’s worth looking into if you’re worried

Pediatrician hasnt said anything about it? May not be too concerning until 2.5. I cant remember. My son was like that and they did a hearing test and also a speech evaluation. He ended up having a speech delay and receptive language disorder. It just took longer for him to talk. Now hes almost 7 and hes still not much of a talker. Hes just quiet. They set up speech therapy and he also was able to go to the "special" preschool that offered speech therapy and had "model kids".

My son started to say stuff a bit after 2. The only 2 word sentence my son says is ā€œCat earā€ lmao but as time goes on he’s saying so much more. He counts to 4, knows several colors and shapes, facial features, Letters too! Something with letters that helped was one of those Leap Frog Fridge magnet alphabet things! They all get there in their own time. I was all the same. I talked all the time, we don’t do an iPad, just doing all the ā€œrightā€ things. They all get there in their own time! Especially if your child is babbling a lot I think it’s not too much of a concern!
I was scared for a while because my son wasn’t saying words that he should’ve been saying when he turned 2 but one day he just exploded

My boy is nearly three and does exactly the same thing. He's still mainly non verbal but as the saying goes conversation is only 30%
A speech therapist on tik tok said it was a good sign if your child leads you to what they need it shows they have the.basic building blocks of understanding language. Some kids don't have that

Birth thoughts

Hi guys.
I’m having a bit of a difficult time talking about my birth because I feel like I cheated it almost. It’s hard listening to other mamas stories and I feel like I didn’t do anything or much because of interventions. I had to be induced due to waters breaking and was put on the oxytocin drip - I then had the epidural because the contractions were crazy. They turned the drip off at some point because my body took over. Then the delivery… I ended up with an episiotomy and forceps. I just feel like I didn’t actually ā€˜give birth’ if that makes sense? Like I feel a bit embarrassed talking about it. Did anyone else have this feeling?

How do you survive the 4am contact-sleep shift? 🤯

How do you cope with the early morning shift with a baby who refuses to sleep anywhere but on you? šŸ« šŸ˜‚

We currently do shifts - I’m on duty from 8:30pm to 4:30am, then my husband takes over from 4:30am to 8:30am so I can get some uninterrupted sleep.

The problem is baby basically stops sleeping in his cot from around 4am and will only sleep on us, so my husband ends up staying awake holding him until my shift is over. 🄲

Husband is going away for two nights for work soon, and I’m honestly wondering how on earth I’m going to manage those early mornings on my own! 😭

Mums who’ve been through this, how did you cope? Did your babies eventually grow out of it, or did you find anything that helped? Would love to hear your experiences! ā¤ļø

Colostrum

I’ve been trying to harvest some colostrum for a week now every day and have only ever managed to get a tiny pin head amount out of one boob.
I’m honestly so deflated and it’s made me so upset every day as I’m not able to do it - does this mean I’m going to hate/not be able to breastfeed? It’s making me really sad every day when I’ve spent a hour a few times a day and just can’t get anything

Speech Therapy

My LO had her 15 month ped appt and her ped said she should be saying 8-10 words…she is referring us to a speech therapist because she only says around 4-5 words (she babbles like crazy tho). FTM - should I be concerned? I thought every baby is different and develops speech at their own pace? Anyone in the same boat?
