Eating out

Does anyone actually manage to eat out with their just turned 2 year old? We went out at lunchtime today for my mums birthday and it was chaos from the minute we got there. In the end we ate, and then left. We took toys with us, colouring etc but she just wants to run around, which I know is normal but it just makes family things so difficult.

Not for that long. If we do eat out with our two-year-old, we usually only do the things like the birthdays, special occasions, and then we try to find a play place if we're doing fast food. Otherwise, we bring the food back to the house to eat.

I guess it depends on the kid? We go out often… probably more than I’d like to admit haha. And have his entire life. Maybe that’s why? How often do you do this? Could just be excitement because it’s something new and unfamiliar? Might get easier the more they do it and get used to it?

I do bring an entire bag FULL of shit.
- colouring (mess free and markers)
- colouring tablet thingies (not iPad but like an itch-a-sketch)
- sticker books
- travel magnetic tiles
- magnetic blocks
- yoto mini with cards
- leap frog books
- busy books with felt pieces
- monster trucks and hot wheel cars (often he’ll make houses for the cars with the tiles/blocks)
- leapfrog learning laptop thing
- play doh
I’m sure I’m forgetting something

Yes but we’ve prioritized eating out since our baby was just a few months old & only really hold expectations of behavior at meal times when we are out at restaurants vs when we are hom

We put in our sons order when we order our drinks & we also have a backpack full of restaurant appropriate toys & things to do
We also let him take a walk with us to the bathroom or around the restaurant holding our one of our hands, cause adults can get up and stretch their legs whenever they need to, why can’t a two year old do the same?

Mine love magnetic blocks, he can sit and make different shapes through the whole meal. If it do know it will take a while we might order then one parent will take him for a wander before the food arrives

Another great tip is to order your kid's meal as soon as you sit down so it arrives sooner

Yes but we do let him run around / take turns outside or in a quiet area where he can stretch his legs (ideally go somewhere with a garden!) and then books and colours come out when the food is there x

We take a bag with toys etc. And if possible choose a place that's okay for them to walk around a bit. It's completely normal for toddlers to be unwilling to sit at a table for an hour (average restaurant trip with ordering etc). I personally feel it's important to take toddlers to these type of environments from time to time to learn how we should behave in restaurants, however it's not easy/peaceful, my almost 4 year old is mostly content to play at the table now.

I would book a place with a high chair!

Breakfast at nursery

This might be stupid but my 13 month old starts nursery 3 days a week tomorrow and, since she'll be starting at 8am, they'll be giving her breakfast.

But I have to wake my daughter up at half 6 and drop her with my mum at 7 so thats a really long time for her to not eat. Should i get her a smaller breakfast at home to tie her over to nursery breakfast or should i just give her her normal breakfast and then if she doesn't eat the nursery breakfast its not really an issue?

How do other people play this?

Eating too fast

My 18 month old eats so fast, like he'll put more in his mouth before he swallowed the last mouthful. It's getting to the point where he's chocking/gagging every meal.
I have no idea what to do to slow him down, tried giving him little bits at a time but he just gets annoyed and impatient!

Bedroom sharing

I'm not sure if social media is just really making me feel like a crappy parent but lately I have been feeling really guilty that my youngest and eldest will have to share a bedroom, Probably until one of our kids moves out to be honest.
There's exactly five years between them so someday they'll be 10&15,12&17 etc and I know they'll be at each other's throats but we just don't have the money to move house again and I don't see it being likely. Baby number 3 wasn't planned and since then my partners had the snip and will be regularly checked to make sure it doesn't happen again. But social media has really started making me feel like I'm a terrible parent for having another child without having another bedroom for them.

I shared with 2 sisters growing up and although we would fight like cat and dog, I didn't hate it and don't hate that my parents didn't have more bedrooms for us.

I don't know what I'm looking for out of this post, it's just really got up in my head that I'm failing them ☹️

Lake District walks

Looking for suggestions on pram & dog friendly walks in the Lake District with somewhere nice to grab food after.
Would be travelling from Preston and baby is only 5 weeks so not too far up for time in the carseat! 😊

I feel like running away

We have a 4y old boy, he started prek and I started doing uber, DoorDash, instacart to make some extra money. About 2 months ago I mentioned to my partner how I would love to take a day off for myself like I’ve seen other moms post about it, they book a hotel room and enjoy their peace for a day. I mentioned it to my partner and he said “Why a hotel? You can do that here at home?”. I tried to explain to him how I would like to have a day to go to bed without tucking anyone in and wake up not having to hear mom the moment I wake up, wake up without worrying about house chores, not worry about what’s gonna be for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I just want a day off of everything. He said that the hotel room idea is bs blah blah blah. I never said anything again!
