Buying Second Hand

Morning!
I’m going to be a ftm, and I love a good Vinted or charity shop savings !
I was wondering what are items I should absolutely AVOID buying second hand and just take the splurge and buy brand new ? Some people have told me not to buy buggies and bassinets etc second hand ? Just want to know if that’s true or if it’s their preference they’re putting on to me lol !
TIA ❤️

Id say, buy a carseat new if you can as you never know if it was in an accident.
Otherwise I personally always buy bottles, teats, and anything going into the mouth (ie teethers) new.
I usually buy most baby clothes in bulk second hand, but then buy some bits new ie if I see a going home outfit or anything personalised.

Car seats 100% you never know their history. I’ve brought pushchairs secondhand and had them cleaned they’ve come out like brand new! If you get a cot or anything like that it’s recommended to get a new mattress that’s safe sleeping advice x

Definitely a new car seat! Then also a new mattress for baby’s crib to follow safe sleep.

The only mattress i didn’t get new for my baby was the Moses basket, only because it seemed new and those naps are always supervised! We did buy a waterproof cover though to go over it

Like the ladies said buy new car seats, cot mattress (using a second hand mattress can lose firmness and hide bacteria, even increase risk of SIDS), if u choose to pump, buy a new pump, buy new first shoes as second hand can have changed shape to fit.

It’s safe to buy the cot frame secondhand as long as the original screws are included. Grey area with prams because of safety (the brakes and frame locks) xx

Car seat and mattresses new, anything else is fine to buy second hand 😊

Car seat is the one must buy new items.

For prams depends on the condition they are in, just think is something you will use for 3/4 years so don't want something breaking too soon.

For cots/bassinets you can buy second hand but I would personally get a new mattress for them

Always buy bottles and dummies new, as well as car seats and mattresses

Sleep for us mums

Often we forget about ourselves when we’ve had children as they always come first. Before having my baby I used to sleep 8-8.5hrs a night. On average I get between 6-7hrs now. Just curious what your all functioning on I feel like a walking zombie every day even though Im still getting a pretty decent sleep.

I’m done. Can someone help me

Posting on here as you’re a month ahead. Since 3.5 months my baby stopped sleeping through the night and woke hourly. 7 weeks later he’s still waking hourly and will only be BF back to sleep.

The worst part is it’s a constant cycle of him having bad reflux and trapped wind and constantly feeding. We tried to rock him back to sleep for one hour last night but he wouldn’t sleep, again, only fed back to sleep.

My mental health is on the floor and I’m now being threatened with a parent and baby unit because I can’t cope. I have a toddler who wakes at 4am and I’ve had 2-3 hours of broken sleep for almost 2 months.

I’ve tried every single nap routine and timings out there trust me. Nothing works. Help.

anxiety is so high right now

so i bathed my baby and when i was lathering him up with soap and washed his hands and arms and that’s when i noticed he brought his hands to his mouth and i panicked because i saw soap all over his chin and lips, without thinking i poured some water on him and then i watched him swallow some of the water. he didn’t cough or anything like that. i immediately freaked out since i heard water this young is toxic to babies. mind you my baby is only 3 weeks old. now its been like 45 minutes since his bath and he’s been breathing normally and acting normally. and im not seeing any bad signs. i mean he did have some spit back since he fed prior to the bath and i couldn’t get him to burp. do i have to contact anyone or will this one time occurrence not do any harm to my baby?

Newborn sleep

Any advice please! Baby was born Tuesday morning and Tuesday night and seems to be tonight I’m not able to put them down.
I’m breastfeeding so only colostrum so far so feeding quite often. But when he seems settled after feeding for a while and I put him down to sleep he kicks off and so far has only slept on me. How am I meant to do this without getting any sleep as I can’t put him down x

Night wean my baby - need advice 🥹

I’m planning to night wean my (almost) 13 months old baby and honestly have no idea where to start. We’ve been cosleeping since birth, and she’s always had free access to the breast all night. She’s now weaned during the day apart from morning and bedtime but still nurses frequently through the night. I’ve just reached my limit with sleep deprivation as I’m back to work 😩 I’d love to hear your experience, how did you do it?? 🙏
