Weaning advice

Hi just looking for a few tips around weaning, my daughter is a little over 5 months and looking to start weaning from 6 months. My understanding is that I should start with 1 meal a day and formula as normal otherwise and then this can increase to 2 meals by 7 months. My questions are … what meal should I start with? The book I’m reading suggests lunch but then I’m aware I will be doing it all and my husband will miss it all due to work? Also do I just do purées to start with? Some things suggest jusy purées, others say to give a food 3 ways straight away eg pureed and mashed and in sticks and also I’ve seen porridge mentioned a lot?? Sorry just a bit confused and want to do it properly ! Also any big tips generally ?? Thanks so much :)

There are so many different ways to do weaning and none of them are "right" - it's just whatever you feel comfortable with!! We do a mixture of some purée and then something for her to grab (eg. Puréed carrot and then some soft steamed carrot sticks). Or some days I just do one type if I'm short on time.
In terms of which meal - do whatever suits you and your family! Just maybe not too close to bedtime so there is time to digest. And if you're introducing allergens do them early in the day to give you time to monitor. If you want more guidance / a more structured plan then I'd recommend Charlotte Stirling Reed's book (How to Wean Your Baby) or Annabel Karmel's book. Good luck - I've loved weaning so far (even if it's super messy and my cat is always covered in food now!) xxx

I did blw and puree together, I did dinner to start with. Allergens I did in the morning as it's easier and just monitor during the day for any reaction. When doing allergens do them on their own not mixed with any other food. Go at your own pace and follow babys cues

https://solidstarts.com/ - I looked up here a lot in the beginning

I started with carrot puree but had some soft cooked carrot slices with it to see if she grabbed it. She didn't. Then I did some other single veggs before switching to more complex stuff.

Also in the beginning it's like a toy/sensation. So if the baby doesn't really eat, don't force it. Try a time when you are relaxed and have time. So in the beginning still feed the same amount of milk until the baby really eats a full meal with protein.

Please contact your local children’s centre and enquire about any introduction to solids sessions.
They are incredibly insightful and helpful.

Anyone actually use their nursery in the first year?

I see so many people saying “don’t worry about getting it all set up! You won’t use it for the first year anyway!” But I’m that person who got it all set up and I’m in love with it.. I know my baby will be in my room for the first 6 months… but realistically will I get to use the nursery at all?

Regretting having my 3 kids back to back

I’m writing this as an extremely exhausted mummy while feeding my baby to sleep for her nap as I have no other time. I have an almost 4 year old, 2.5 year old and 8 month old so I’ve basically been pregnant back to back. My first was 9 months old when I fell pregnant and 2nd baby was 1 year old when I fell pregnant with my 3rd. My body feels more unfit and knackered this time around (I’m 34). I’m feeling constantly like I’m not doing enough for someone, despite my husband helping me and being hands on as he does drop off and pick ups for nursery I deal with the mental load and keeping things as organised as they can be. I suppose I’m on my own most days but I’m fortunate the kids go to nursery during the week so I only have my 8 month old 24/7. I love motherhood so much but finding that because they’re all so young it’s hard to enjoy it and everytime I’m with my eldest and the 8 month old just the 2 of them I can’t help but fantasise about how much easier a 3 year gap would have been. I would have been able to be more independent as a mum but I feel bad relying on my husband’s help so much when his family make comments that he does too much etc and he should take it easy. Makes me feel so incapable as a mum and I wish I had age gaps now 😢 does this get easier? I would just appreciate any words of encouragement really x
Just to point out the comments from his family aren’t direct to me but I can tell by how they talk to him/ message him etc. for example if we host family at Christmas they will tell him to sit down and take it easy but wow it’s intense with 3 little ones plus I’m still breastfeeding and baby isn’t sleeping well yet so still sleep deprived x

Opinions

Hey Mummas, we have my husbands Christmas works party in December, it’s about 30 mins from home, but instead of getting lifts/ taxis we’ve decided to book a hotel for the night and arranged for my sister to have little man over night. He will be nearly 6 months! But this will be the first time leaving him over night and we won’t leave until late afternoon and come back mid morning, but I feel really guilty, is this normal? Has anyone done anything similar? Any tips?

What are we buying our toddlers for Christmas?

My little girl will be 20 months by the time Christmas comes around, I don’t want the house full of useless toys taking up space we don’t have, so what are good things to buy that will actually get used? She’s currently obsessed with taking lids off things 🤣

Holidays with a newborn

Hi guys! I need some opinions or advice about having a newborn during the holidays. My baby girl will be about a month old by Thanksgiving, and originally, I really didn’t want to take her to anyone’s house. The thing is, if we go to my family’s house, we would also have to go to my husband’s family’s house, and my husband really wants to spend time with his family during the holidays. 😒

For those of you who had a newborn around the holidays, did you take them to family gatherings? If so, how did you handle it? I’m worried about her being passed around and potentially getting sick, especially since she’ll still be so little. Of course, my husband wants his family to be able to hold her, but I’m just not comfortable with having everyone pass her around when her immune system is still developing.

I’m trying to find a balance between letting family spend time with her and keeping her safe. I’d love to hear how you guys handled this! ❤️
