My husband is Yoruba Nigerian and his family are very keen on us using a Nigerian name for our first daughter who will also be the first grandchild to his family. I'm not against this but all the suggested names seem very harsh sounding to me and not very pretty (I don't mean to offend) I would really like to honor his culture whilst giving my baby girl a pretty and unique name with a good meaning. Does anybody have any suggestions of Yoruba names that sound modern and easy for British people to pronounce? Please help I'm due in 7 days and my baby is nameless lol š

My mum was a childminder and she use to look after two little girls. One was called iola and the other Meronique (not sure on the spelling but itās pronounced moronicay) š

Temi and Tito are nice names āŗļø

My daughters father is from zimbawbe....and we honoured his by using shona names as middle names...
And using more English ( kind of ) names for first names. Just for future job references x

A good modern name is Simisola but can be shorten to Simi it means āRest in good wealth and prosperityā.

āJadesolaā which means "come out into wealth or walk into wealthā and is of Yoruba origin. You can call her Jade for short.

Kemi, Ireoluwa, Feyi, Morenike, Shola- all have beautiful meanings

Lola, Lara (omolara), Tola, wumi

My daughter is Iremide (middle name) and I like a lot of yoruba names some are really pretty .. just keep looking x

Darasimi āŗļø

SadĆ© (p.s I love how the Yoruba mum community has come out š)

Aretta (you can call her Ari for short)

Like other people stated, Simisola or Jadesola are great names that can be shortened to simi or jade, she definitely won't be embarrassed other options are
Demilade, Damilola, Tobiloba they can all be shortened as well.

Kemi and Lola are super cute Nigerian girls names ā¤ļø

I am not yoruba but I suggest (Omolara )

Shola Ama
Thanks ladies, I really appreciate the feedback and some really lovely names to think about, we have decided on Ayomi or simisola, so I guess we'll see how we feel when we see our little one xx
