Hi Mama's! I really love to have hummus and peppers for snacks but recently read that Tahini in hummus is not safe. Has been linked to salmonella abd listeria. Any facts about hummus in pregnancy??
Thanks!!

A lot of the store made hummus has been detected with glyphosate. Organic is the way to go but you definitely have to look at the brands and their ingredients. Making it yourself with organic chick peas is ultimately best but check into a brand called Hope. They have hummus. Sabra is one of the brands that contained glyphosate.

Oh I’m not gonna lie... That wasn’t even on my radar.. slipped right by me. In my defence, there’s 7,000 things we should apparently not eat haha... like you aren’t even supposed to eat uncooked vegetables from a restaurant for listeria risk. Only vegetables you’ve washed yourself.... So poutine is better than a side salad in this world if you’ve forgotten your lunch at work.
I’ve been eating hummus this WHOLE time (37wks). Often I make my own (was still using my big tub of tahini), but also store-bought.
Oops.

Ok thanks ladies🤗 I have a couple made with chickpea. They are organic but one contains Tahini so I wasn't sure.

I’m confused why it wouldn’t be? .. I’ve been eating it 🤷🏻♀️

Hi, I actually never heard of this when I was pregnant, but I just looked it up and its to do with one case of salmonella in New Zealand that was linked to tahini. If you want to be extra cautious, just make your own hummus without tahini.

Got it! Ok thank you for responding. I feel better. I would hate to give it up😊

We give so much hummus to our 1 year old! Following

We don't love tahini anyway so I always make hummus without it. Use a food processor and it takes like 5 minutes :)
