Summer with a baby is its own kind of beautiful chaos.

There's the sunshine, the fresh air, the impossibly tiny sunhat, and then there's the very real logistical reality of packing for a 45-minute trip to the park like you're preparing for a two-week expedition.

We get it.

And so does every mom in the Peanut community who has ever looked at her diaper bag and thought: there has to be a simpler way to do this.

The good news? There is. And it starts before you leave the house.

The secret to easier summer outings isn't a better-packed bag.

It's a simple, reliable home routine that means your baby's skin is taken care of before you go, and properly reset when you get back.

Less to think about out there. More room for the joy of actually being there.

This article was written in partnership with Dove Baby.

Why summer skin care matters more than you think

The before: set baby's skin up for the day

The after: the reset for you both

What actually goes in the bag

Why summer skin care matters more than you think

Baby skin is delicate all year round, but summer brings its own particular challenges - heat, sweat, sunscreen, and the relentless cycle of getting sticky, getting rinsed, and doing it all again.

Which means what you're putting on your baby's skin matters more than ever, and what you're reaching for at bath time needs to be something you can trust completely.

Dove Baby's range is formulated with exactly this in mind.

Dermatologist-tested and pediatrician-recommended, every product is designed to gently cleanse, moisturize, and protect your baby's delicate skin, without the dyes, parabens, phthalates, or sulfates.

All formulas are certified cruelty-free by PETA and made with 100% skin-natural nutrients.

The moisture and nourishment you know and trust from Dove, now for baby, too.

The before: set baby's skin up for the day

A quick, gentle moisturizing routine before you head out means baby's skin goes into the heat already nourished and protected - so whatever the day throws at you, you're starting from a good place.

The after: the reset for you both

This is the part nobody tells you about.

After a full day in the summer heat - sunscreen, sweat, sand, all of it, the bath-time rinse-down is one of the best moments of the day.

For baby, and honestly, probably for you too.

It's a pause. A sensory reset. A few minutes of warmth and presence that belong entirely to you and your baby, before the feed and the wind-down and (fingers crossed) the good night’s sleep.

For total moisture
We love the Dove Baby Rich Moisture wash.

An ultra-caring, hypoallergenic tip-to-toe wash that gently cleanses baby's delicate skin while helping it retain its natural moisture.

Formulated with 100% skin-natural nutrients and a prebiotic moisturizer.

What actually goes in the bag

With the home routine handled, the bag can be exactly what it should be: the basics, not a pharmacy.

The Peanut community says:

A change of clothes (or two)

Depending on your little one’s age and whether they’ll be feeding or snacking, pack basics accordingly. We always tend to assume at least one diaper explosion, just in case.

A snack for you, not just baby

We’ve all been gifted soggy vegetable puffs, or equivalently delicious snack, by an excited little one, but make sure to bring yourself something you actually want to eat or drink. Whether it’s an iced coffee or your favorite snack.

A muslin cloth

Literally infinite uses, no further explanation needed.

Entertainment

Something to keep them happy for the 5 minutes it takes you to drink the aforementioned iced coffee or snack. Peek-a-boo books and sensory toys are great for this.

Your phone, fully charged

For the 147 photos you'll take, the voice note to your group chat, and the inevitable Peanut search of "is it normal that my baby..." mid-park-walk.

Summer with a baby is messy and magical and exhausting and everything at once.

The outings won't always go to plan.

But a simple, gentle routine at home - before you leave and when you're back - means one less thing to worry about while you're out there making memories.

Remember, you don't need to have it all figured out.

You just need a few things that actually work - and a community that gets it.

So find your village on Peanut.

And let Dove Baby handle the skin care.

Hi mamas 💕 I wanted to ask if any of you have experienced this with your baby. My baby recently fell off the bed, and I’m feeling very worried. He cried right away, calmed down, and has been acting normal, but I would love to hear from other moms who have gone through something similar. Thank you 🤍

I feel like the world’s worst mum ever.

Yesterday my baby, nearly 1, fell from his high chair. I took him to a&e and they said he is fine but to just keep an eye on him. I honestly can’t shake this feeling away especially that I didn’t get to him quick enough. I feel like the worst mum in the world, I’m not eating, I’m not sleeping and constantly crying about the whole thing. My poor baby; he has a small bruise on his forehead and a bruise and a scratch on his knee. I’m absolutely devastated about the whole thing

what’s happening with my baby

my little girl is 2.5 weeks old. she has been latched onto my breast since 5pm, it’s now 11.30. i wish i could say i was exaggerating but she’s literally been feeding for 6.5 hours. she screams between each breast too.

she’s been awake the whole time and now she’s extremely overtired and won’t sleep. she’s had a 3oz bottle of breastmilk and is still rooting and chewing her hands.

i just don’t know what’s wrong with her or what to do.

Poop issue

Hey 👋🏽 First time momma here 🙈Anyone else’s baby boy struggling with no pooping? My boy is 3 months and 10 days old and today it’s his 23rd day without any poop only some smears on the cheeks! We went to see his pediatrician and I do the bicycle legs every day but i’m really concerned now about this situation. I feel lost and like i do something wrong. (He’s exclusively breastmilk fed baby).

So a little update! After his 23 days almost starting the 24th day HE FINALLY POOPED!!!! 😻💕 I gave him some formula then 3 hours later he spitted up half of what he ate then he went back to sleep woke up half hour later spitting up a little more then he fell asleep on my chest and I heard a fart… then a second fart where you know that “okay that fart actually wasn’t just fart” moment so i checked his diaper and a huuuge amount of poop finally 😻
