The top girl name of 2023, according to our Peanut mamas, isn’t a surprise ‒ it’s been top of the charts for a good few years, now!
Olivia: A peaceful name for a peaceful baby, meaning “olive”. 🫒
But there’s another name that’s been used more recently as a gender-neutral name, which means that could push Olivia off the pole position:Noah: Yet another name with a peaceful meaning, Noah means “repose or rest” in Hebrew. It’s no surprise to us that new moms want their babies to be calm!
These are just a little different from the official figures by the SSA, with some in the top 10 for the first time.

Gender-neutral names are coming in hot!
While some of these names might be used more for boys than girls, we're seeing a rise in nonbinary names in 2024:
There’s been an uptick in top girl names after flowers and colors ‒ Scarlett, Violet, Willow, Hazel… and these names that have risen most since 2021 are proof:
The number of gender-neutral names among our Peanut mamas is starting to even out, but the number of times they’re used is increasing rapidly.
Where, before, Noah, James, and Ezra might be considered just popular boy’s names, they’re now used for baby boys, girls, and they-bies.
Because of that, we’re seeing those names used much more often.
Noah alone has been used more than 3 times more than 2021!
We predict that we’ll see roughly the same number of gender-neutral baby names in 2024, but they’ll be used much more often, so Noah will stay at the top of the charts, but Luca, Charlie, and Harper will rise up to meet it.
You know these all too well.
We’re talking baby names ending with -leigh, -lynn, and swapping is for ys, ss for zs.
Now, of course, there’s nothing wrong with names like these ‒ Everleigh, Braelynn, and Aspyn, to name a few ‒ but they might be a sign of the times.
And the times, they are a-changing, especially as more Gen Z-ers are having babies.
But that’s not to say that these Millennial names are disappearing entirely ‒ after all, Millennials are also having babies later on, so we could still see some creeping in the top girl names.
