The maternity pads on the inside are a good idea you could also use any kind of clean white cloth, a long sock or cut a tshirt up. you want to be comfortable so a towel or cloth may be too bulky, but the purpose is to help absorb any of the excess fluid in the area, whether it be sweat or discharge. You can also use vitamin E oil on it. I found that buying the capsules of vitamin E pills, and just popping them open and squeezing them on the area was the most effective (but stinky! And the smell dont wash out well unless you use vinegar. Tinctures are less smelly). you want to keep the area super clean and as dry as possible. In terms of redness, it looks good! I'd say check the area every hour or so. Clean it with warm water and soap is okay but not scented or dyed. Let the area get some air (you can even use a fan on it) but make sure its super dry before any cloth or padding down there. Also, by using white cloth you are sure to not get the dyes from the clothing on the area AND
It will help you monitor the amount and color of any discharge.
Oh, and the reason I say vitamin E oil on it is because that's what my midwife had me use and the scaring is very minimal. Vitamin E helps cellular growth!
I would just clean it with cooled boiled water and then lay back and air it (baby depending..)
I had a c-section 8 months ago and I had to go through three lots of antibiotics so if you feel like it’s not right get some more, I also had cream they gave me to run around it and I used to wash it in the shower then lay on the bed let air get to it but sometimes I didn’t have time to wait for it to air dry so I got my hair dryer put it on cold and just put cool air on it and as soon as I started doing that it got loads better x
Mine went like this and I got given some cream to help clear the last bit. I’m now 6months pp and if I get sweaty my scar gets a bit sore so I just use the cream
Hi Sarah-Jane 👋🏻 Is it sill sore and smelly? My scar got infected. Antibiotics didn’t work for me. My scar looked just like yours in the picture; inflamed with white discharge. I went back to my GP, turned out I had a fungal infection rather than a bacterial infection and they prescribed Timodine cream. My infection was cured by end of week with the Timodine cream.
Avoid water from getting there.If its smelling please make sometime and go back to the hospital.Wear free wears and underwears. It can get worst, I had mine being washed and dressed for a while at the hospital for wounds.There was a gel they applied it dries up that gab in less than no time.That helped me alot.
@Kate it's not smelly like it was before it's more of a sweaty smell now . I'm a big girl and have an over hang . I'm going to monitor it and if it becomes worst once my antibiotics finish I'll go back . I'm just thinking will this ever heal 😫 xxx
I don't know how I can avoid water from getting there when it needs cleaning xx
@K A T E the end but is abit sore still but the rest is fine . It's not a horrible smell now sometimes there's a sweaty smell there but before there was a bad odour there . Maybe I'm going to ring my gp tommorow and just tel them about it . I don't want it going worse like before xx
I also had a really bad infection in my wound for about 2/3 months. The only thing that helped was once I got out the shower, lay down use cool boiled water with cotton wool to clean it and then lay near a window to air it out naturally. I also wore padded dressing once dried as it stopped my wound getting sweaty, as from the picture it isn't as red so I'd say it's 100% getting better just keep it dry and just give the wound a nice clean, if you can't see properly I got my partner to help x
@Sarah-Jane I don’t think avoiding water is going to help, as if you were to have it cleaned by a nurse for instance they would use sterile water. I do am a big girl, so I have a over hang, I literally lifted by belly and put the shower head on it, it is clean water, don’t use soap or anything, just use water and like I said either a sponge or tbh I use my hand, something that really helps me in the summer months is Sudocreme, It’s gets red and itchy when I’ve been sweaty and I just clean it and use Sudocreme. If I’m doubt ask your gp to have a look, so harm in asking x
@Kodie thanks so much glad I'm not the only one suffering with this. It's such a chore isn't it especially with having twins and 3 older children . I have to sneak off to have 5 minutes to myself I would prefer a dressing over it tbh

@Aaliyah ☁️ thank you I will try the cotton wool how many times a day should I clean it and air it ?
@Sarah-Jane the problem with a dressing is it may get really moist and will take longer to heal. I had a bad infection with first c section and it felt like it took a long time to heel, I use to wear normal pads to protect it for ages. You could get a gauze type inner dressing - I will attach photo. It really needs to dry out (easier said than done) but will these, which you can pop into your over hang and then this will soak up any sweat. How long ago did you have the c section?
@Kodie I'm 4 weeks pp xx
@Sarah-Jane aw it’s still early days, it will heal just keep on top of the cleaning and airing and it will be better on no time x
@Kodie thanks so much xxx
@Sarah-Jane that’s great, yes keep doing it and you will see a huge difference x
@Hannah sorry to hear about that . Atleast your on the mend now . Thanks for the advice . When I saw my go for the antibiotics I mentioned I had been using a hair dryer on the cool setting and she said to stop doing it becoz you don't know what or if the dryer is blowing and bacteria onto it and causing infection. It's weird how different gp tell you different things xxx
@Chanel oh did you . Did it not irritate it ? I don't know if I can coz mine has been infected . Did it clump op ? X
@Kate when you say avoid water from getting there do you mean outside of cleaning it? Because you definitely need to use water to clean it. But aside from that yes, it should remain as dry as possible.
@Sarah-Jane looks great! Definitely take pictures every time it starts to bother you from here on out. take a picture and write some notes. You may be able to use it further down the line if it keeps getting infected if you are interested in getting help from a plastic surgeon! Good luck on your journey, mama!
@Sarah-Jane I did mine every night when I'd shower x
@Aaliyah ☁️ yeah that's what I'm going to do from now on xxx
I’d say, give it a nice clean with just a sponge and water and then see how it looks after it’s dried in an hour or 2. Unsure what the white is but it looks ok. Mine looked like this for a while, I’d just clean it a few times a day and make sure you leave it dry throughly, I use to wear maternity pads on the inside of my knickers to protect it, I was so conscious x
