It's so hard to predict based on dilation. With my first, my OB checked me at my 36w check up and my cervix was closed. Water broke 2 days later.
With my second I was 2 cm dilated at 38 weeks, still got induced at 40 weeks.

Do you feel contractions when you're working? Do you have a physically demanding job?

I’m an activity aid at a nursing center . Part of it is sitting but some parts are standing and doing activities with them throughout the day . but the other part is serving their food & drinks from 11-12:30 & 4-5:30. Those are the times that are considered a lot of walking .

I'm 31 weeks 3 days and my job consists of me walking for 8 hrs and how would I know if I'm dilating

your OB can check your cervix for yu.

@Ashay Gillsberry do they have to?

they check it when you’re close to your due date & when you’re in labor . It determines whether or not your body is preparing for labor . They only checked mine so early because I told my OB that I was feeling a lot of pressure

Most practices don't routinely check anymore because you can be closed and go into labor the next day, or be 2-3 cm dilated for many weeks. If you're concerned about preterm labor though sometimes they'll check to ensure your body isn't making significant changes too early.

I am an RN in an ICU, I'm on my feet a lot and helping turn/lift patients. Now that I'm 30 weeks my coworkers are good about making sure I have help. I ended up leaving work early with my first because I was having contractions at work. So far, I have some Braxton hicks with this one but not painful. Hoping to finish out my work contract and I'll be 35 weeks when I start my maternity leave.

@Samantha I think that's what I was experiencing at work Braxton hicks but I'm not sure it was tightening and alil pain round the bottom of my stomach and lasted a couple of seconds

My best advice is that if you are unsure, call your doctor and or go into the labor and delivery unit of your hospital to get checked out.

It is never a good idea to ask a pregnancy forum these serious medical questions as people here are not equipped to answer them or make sure you're ok.

First Midwife Appointment

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday, I've been left full of worry is this normal?

She came to my house, she was so lovely I do feel lucky to have such a good midwife. The meeting was about an hour and a half.

There was so much information to take in I was very overwhelmed!
She went through all the scans testing etc, I never knew there could be so much 'wrong' with a baby. I have now booked an early scan I am freaking out.

I've been googling statistics all morning

Braxton Hicks vs early labour — anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced going into labour with only Braxton Hicks contractions — so more like discomfort or tightening rather than actual pain — and not realising that labour had started.
I’m currently 39+3 and had a sweep yesterday. I’m already 1 cm dilated, baby is 1/5 engaged, and the midwife said she could feel the baby’s head. My cervix is soft and short, so all the signs seem positive — it feels like we’re just waiting for baby to arrive now.
During my appointment, the midwife also noticed I was having 2–3 contractions (just tightening in my bump) without any pain. She mentioned that some women can go into labour without realising it and advised me to keep an eye on them. She even suggested that what I’ve been feeling so far might be what’s helped me get to this stage.
So I’d love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience — I know it’s not impossible!
Thank you 😊

No bleeding after c section

9 days post op and I’ve not been bleeding at all.. I only bled some clots for the first 24-48 hours but nothing after that. Midwives are advising this is normal, has anyone else experienced no bleeding after c section?

What if I don’t want an induction?

Hi everyone, I’m 39+1 weeks, my next midwife appt is on my due date which I am happy about however hope I go into labour before then. I have had slight twinges and small pains, however nothing has happened yet and I am gutted as I really don’t want any type of induction. Say I get to 41+ weeks, and I don’t want any type of induction, what happens then? This might be a very silly question but my midwife isn’t helpful and would rather hear from others as opposed to doctor Google. Thanksss! X

Soft spot concern

I took my little boy into the doctors for a chest infection earlier and they said she concerned over his soft spot hasn't closed yet and is quite sunken.. but he's not dehydrated and putting on weight well, so have done some type of advice and guidance to paeds and said they may want to look at his brain/head or may be nothing, called a doctor in and he said he'd never seen anything like it even working in paeds, which has now made me worry. Anyone else had the same or similar?🥺😭
