My LO is 6 months in a few weeks so I’m trying to get my head around weaning. I want to start with baby porridge but I’m unsure whether I give baby some formula beforehand or after? Some websites say an hour before and some say to offer milk after! Confused!

I use nurse then a hour later give some puree

I give half of the bottle then give him porridge

I would definitely offer formula first. You only give about 1-2 teaspoons of food for the first few times

Babies main nutrients come from milk until they are one year old. It’s best to offer purée or finger food after they have fed with their usual milk as at this stage food it’s about experimenting. Hence why it’s called complementary feeding.

I've been finding it better to do seperate. So feed baby porridge an hour before his bedtime bottle. So he had some banana porridge at 7 then should drink his bottle between 8 and half 8. Might be a fluke but when he had the porridge later on in the day he slept through for the first time. I've tried rusks too, haven't done many purees yet as he's only 5months x
