Our baby is turning 1 in two weeks and we are excited to stop buying formula as it is a big expense. We’ve been introducing cow milk mixed in some of his bottles.
We read that in order to avoid excess of cow milk, we should make sure he eats more solids; and that to increase the amount of solids we should reduce the amount of bottles; and that to reduce the amount of bottles we should introduce the cup/sippy cups. It all seems to be “interconnected”.
We’ve been trying it for the past week and he is definitely more fuzzy than usual. Cries more often and wakes up in the middle of the night (he hadn’t for a few months). We are still giving him his bottle first thing in the morning and one at night. If the sippy cup is not working during the day then we give him the bottle instead. We also offer a sippy cup with water with his solid meals.
Is it too soon for him? Is it normal that he “acts” differently or is he telling me he is not ready? I don’t want to do it too soon but I did read the sooner we do it, the easier it is. Also, again, we are looking forward to stopping spending so much in formula.
Hope it makes sense. What’s your journey been in this area?

I haven’t tried yet. My little one will be one on the 16th. I think I will wait until after her year appointment

Our girl has been self weaning pretty well. We don’t limit how much milk we offer, but we always offer it an hour after she eats solids so she gets more full on that! Solid starts has some free and very helpful feeding schedules that will probably be helpful to you!

I’ve had the same issue with my baby. I read to stick with it and they will adapt to it. It’s better said than done. I’m doing it all cold turkey, i’m stopping bottles and formula. We ran out sooner then expected and instead of buying more we switched to milk. She also hasn’t had much of an appetite and is in a regression 😂 so probably not the best timing

My baby takes 3 sippy cup full of formula a day. Will be 1 in 8 days.
Breakfast 930/10am
7oz 12pm
Lunch 2pm
7oz 4pm
Dinner 6pm
8oz 9pm
So what I did was kept the 7oz formula 12pm
I did 4oz whole milk 4pm adding a snack.
And 8oz formula 8pm.
Because essentially what I get is that you increase solids and decrease the bottles. Bc they do have to have milk every day but not as the main source of nutrition

Milk is not necessary so they don’t need it every day or even at all. Any liquids (including liquids in food) will work.

I’m trying to switch her slowly. So I’m stuck right now she usually takes
Breakfast 10am
7oz formula 12pm
Lunch 2pm
7oz formula 4pm
Dinner 6pm
8oz 9pm.
We wake up late and go to bed late 😅
She’s currently entering day 4 of the transition whole milk we’re currently
Breakfast 10am
Formula 7oz 12pm
Lunch 2pm
Whole milk 4oz and snack 4pm
Dinner 6pm
Formula 8oz 9pm
What should I do now ?
Add whole milk to the morning bottle 😭 I’m lost

We introduced the sippy cup at 6 months. She only has formula in her bottles and only has milk or water in a sippy cup. We transitioned to a straw sippy cup though and don’t use the soft spouts or hard spouts….she seems to do great with just whole milk in a straw sippy cup and will drink it until I take it away lol

what straw cup do you use ??

we use the Zak cups, take and toss ones, and tommee tipee ones

Feed more at meals and cut back on formula. She really doesn’t need any at this point. My girl eats lots of food and just has a juice and water mix through the day and smoothies for breakfast. Her favorite is frozen banana, soy milk and a pinch of simple 5 chocolate syrup.
