I stopped taking mine when I found out I was pregnant (personal preference) but many doctors and nurses have told me it’s completely safe to take anti depressants/anti anxiety medication whilst pregnant and it doesn’t affect the baby. I was on sertraline and if I felt I needed it whilst pregnant I would take it again x

Thanks so much Hannah. I was on escitalopram and stopped but have been feeling anxious again. I have also been told it's safe but would prefer not to. However I wonder which is worse, the medicine or anxiety

how are you finding things?

Hello, I was on Sertraline and came off about a year before getting pregnant. I’ve had terrible sickness which has left me in bed for days so my anxiety went through the roof. I’ve been put back on Sertraline after speaking with my GP. My GP said she’d spoken to the perinatal mental health and they said it was totally safe and fine. You’ve got to do what is best for you 😊

I'd speak to your GP about your options and work out what is rifht for you. Just remember that a healthy mama (that's in body AND mind) is what is best for baby! Even the literature for most of the antidepressant safety in pregnancy talks about "potential benefit outweighing risks" which is key.

How my psychiatrist described it to me (on a low dose of sertraline) was that it wasn’t ideal to be on the antidepressants but that struggling with bad mental health was much more damaging. I came off mine but could also cut down on work and other stressful commitments, which helped. Certainly get back anxious days still so am going to speak to him about going back on once the baby is here 💗

I take sertraline recently been increased, gp said sertraline is safe in pregnancy, apparently some at the beginning could cause birth defects but at this stage in pregnancy they said it’s fine, definitely important to feel good in your self too xx
