Long story but I’m looking for a single mattress for my 16 month old, to put on the floor of his room in place of his cot bed. He loves to move around in his sleep and lies sideways but doesn’t have room to do so with the cot sides. (We also co-sleep if he wakes in the night and won’t settle but we want to stop the habit of bringing him into our bed). I’m guessing it shouldn’t be memory foam?! Any suggestions for a mattress? Sorry for the random question!!

Look at the lullaby trust for safe sleep guidelines. I think you probably need a firm mattress, breathable mattress protector and well fitted sheets. The mattress should also really have some airflow underneath

Thanks so much. Good point about the air flow underneath. We were hoping to avoid buying a floor bed frame but maybe we’ll need to! Thanks 😊

If you don't want to buy a frame you can always lift the mattress up every day or so when he's not sleeping but it needs to be done regularly to let the mattress and floor air out

adult mattresses aren’t safe until 2 years old, because they aren’t firm enough. you will need a crib/toddler bed mattress. they can also go mouldy when directly on the floor, so will need a frame

Thanks everyone. Maybe we’ll keep him going with his cot bed until he’s 2, and then get a floor bed frame and mattress then 😊
