Baby boy’s weight dropped super low in the first week, so we started him on formula. I have been pumping and triple feeding him since then. Today marks two weeks of him being born, and my supply still stays low at 5 ml on left boob and just a few drops on right 😢
Im using hospital grade Medela pump. Anything that I could be doing wrong?
I’m also observing that he actually stays on my right boob while breastfeeding. Is it possible that my right boob functions during breastfeeding but fails to just pump out milk?
And, is it normal that I feel slight chillyness on my other boob while feeding him? Is it supposed to mean that milk is flowing?

What you’re feeling in the opposite side when you’re feeding him is very likely your letdown☺️ and yes you can totally be able to feed your baby without getting a lot of output with a pump! Babies are way more efficient than a pump but if you’re still pumping check your flange size! It could be off and that might be why you’re not getting as much, I hope this helps

It’s is super common for babies to drop a lot of weight within the first week. Mainly due to colostrum not being very fatty but nutritious. Pumping does not at all indicate supply at all. When baby feeds from the breast they get all the milk they need. It is a supply and demand. If your baby needs it your body will make it. It’s also common that babies prefer the right boob. And for the left boob to be slacker.

Thanks guys that was all great advise. I hope I get the supply flowing soon 😔

the best way to increase your babies supply is by feeding on demand when they want.
