Sorry in advance for the long post…
My little boy is 10 months on 21st of this month. For his whole life (and I’m not joking) bedtime has been mayhem. Whatever we try he takes so long so fall asleep, we are in and out constantly, we’ve tried staying in there with him too, then he will go to sleep finally and spend most the evening waking up every so often crying so we are in and out all night. It isn’t even like this is part of a regression, teething or heat related as it’s always been like this.
His rough schedule is:
06:30- wake and bottle
08:00 - breakfast
09:30 - 11:00 - nap
12:00 - lunch
14:00 - bottle
14:30 - 15:30 - nap
17:00 - dinner
Then we try and get him asleep for 7pm with a bottle obviously at bedtime. So he has a 3.5 wake window before bed. All the advice tells me these are appropriate naps and wake windows for his age? I have a 2 year old as well I don’t remember it being like this with her at almost 10 months!
He wakes in the night for comfort and will go back down quickly with a dummy or a cuddle. He doesn’t feed overnight.
We have tried giving him a shorter wake window before bed, a longer one, increasing and decreasing amount of nap time in the day. Nothing seems to help bedtime. He goes down ok for naps. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you xxx

I’d try minimum 4 hours before bed, might take a few days to see a difference. The schedule looks good otherwise though, pretty similar to ours! Do you have a really consistent bedtime routine? I’ve found that really helps. I’ve stopped feeding as part of the bedtime routine as well and she goes down awake. Sometimes protests for a few minutes but she’s great at putting herself to sleep usually (touch wood) xx

yes we have a really really consistent bedtime routine. I’ll try the longer wake window before bed. If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your rough daily schedule? Xx

Is little one self settling themselves to sleep for naps and at night? My little one slept terribly until we used a sleep consultant x

naps kind of… night time absolutely no chance he will scream and scream and scream xx

this was my little one down to a tee! Xx

really similar to yours, wakes up about 6.30am (sometimes later), three wake windows through the day of 3, 3.5, 4 hours, gets between 2.5-3 hours of naps across two naps, bedtime by 8pm and sleeps through. She needs to be tired enough to sleep so 10.5 hours wake time minimum across the day. She sometimes protests in bed but if she’s tired enough she’s asleep within 5 minutes xx

if you don’t mind me asking which sleep consultant did you use? Our little boy has never been a brilliant sleeper but now I think some help with help! Thanks

we used Sleep well with Hannah. She is doing a free workshop I think at the moment which could help x

Thank you!

thank you. Tried a longer wake window tonight before bed and it didn’t go very well. Will try again tomorrow x
