My daughter is 17 months and doesn't say loads of words. Her main words are dog, nana (for banana), bubbles, birds, mum (sometimes)
A lot of people have made comments about kids her age or younger talking more
I'm just curious as to how many words your children are saying and hopefully to have my mind put at rest that she isn't behind as it's so hard to make sure she is developing the way she should be
Thank you!

My LG basically just says peppa and dadda - I wouldn’t pay attention to the posts that are always long list of amazing (sometimes ridiculous) things their kids can do - they will all catch up in the end, and it’s nothing to do with what you as a mum. Don’t worry she sounds more advanced than my little girl and I’m not worried at all :) xxx

My 18 month old only says a handful of words. I find it quite toxic when parents list what their kids can do; they all develop at different rates. Happy & healthy is all that matters at this age x

My little girl (18 months) doesn't really say much. She has said cat, clap, and what sounds like dada sometimes. She speaks a lot in the own words (she knows what she's saying) very vocal, but thats about it atm. She will get there in her own time x

If you have a red book it actually tells you at the front how many words your baby should be saying by months x

Seems plenty though

I think it's 150 words by 36 months so plenty of time

Thanks ladies! I see people posting and it sounds like their kids have a better vocabulary than me 🤣🤣 so it got me worried but other than that she is a perfect little soul 🩷

My 17 month old says odd words here and there and most of the time it's only close family can tell what she is trying to say.
Usually the words aren't repeated either it's just one offs.
Some babies are better than others at some things, they will each develop at their own pace.
I'd say it's completely normal so don't worry

I think they say 5-20 words is normal at this age. The best things are books, books and more books. & I personally think Ms Rachel is a lifesaver!

I have twins (18m G/G). One has a good few words and seems to have a new one a day (although will forget the next day and pick up a different word). The other says dada and woof only. Don't worry! They all go at their own pace :)

Do you remember when everyone was asking if its normal their baby is not sitting, crawling, walking. Now they pretty much all are. Its no indication of their intelligence. My first was having conversations at 18 months. Shes now 13, and quite struggles at school. Second said about 5 words by 2. He is so smart. They both never shut up now and are confident happy kids.
Its not toxic to share your children's achievements. We are proud mamas. If your child starts saying sentences at 18m or 24m its a new milestone and if people want to share- why not. I believe thats quite toxic to feel they should't because it makes you feel bad.
If a kid in a class looses their tooth first you would not start worrying that your child hasn't lost their tooth a year later. Kids all grow and develop at different rates.
I know as ftm its harder to understand, but trust me they all get there x

My 17 month old says over 100 words but I know that is not normal. Of course I’m proud but at the same time there’s no need to go on about it to other parents. It doesn’t help anything and every parent knows about the anxiety of watching your kid develop. So please ignore those people making comments as much as you can. Most of my daughter’s baby friends only say a few words. Don’t worry, your daughter sounds perfectly normal. It feels like there is always something to worry about. I remember at the 1 year check she didn’t say 3 words like it said on the checklist and I was so stressed, now things have changed massively. Reading to them helps and we also got her flashcards (which you don’t need just something to do really). She will get there in her own time ❤️❤️❤️

Pleaseee ignore the comments! Every single child is so different! Plus IMO I think it’s extremely clever for a child under 2 to say AND recognise what it is. People put way too much pressure on parents to follow a textbook 🫠
Don’t worry at all, she’s absolutely fine and doing so well to say the words she does 🥰

My little girl has been talking for a while now & puts 3/4 words together. However, she still wakes 5/6 times a night & barely eats anything other than milk 🤣 so I think it’s all relative & they’re all different!xx

Your daughter is saying a lot more than my son 😅 wouldn't worry xx
