Milk supply - advice please!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hey!

I’m EBF and baby is 9 weeks old.

Does going a long length of time without pumping or feeding reduce your milk supply?

Basically, very long story cut short - I’m going to be doing some placement shifts on the ambulance and won’t be able to pump frequently - I will be able to pump on break and that’ll just be once in a 12 hour shift. I’m a paramedic student just finished my final year but have some shifts to do before I graduate.

When I’m not doing these shifts I’ll be feeding and pumping as normal.

TIA 🥰

Yes your supply will decrease. Breast milk production is supply and demand. However if you power pump on your time off you should be fine. Try and pump in the middle of your shift if you can so that way you’re not getting engorged.

Your employer legally should be giving you more breaks and a locked place to store your milk. Just let them know before your back that's what you need x

thank you, makes sense! So, does it matter that when I do extra pumping on my time off I don’t get much? I find that when I do pump extra in between feeds I don’t express much, compared to when it’s been a few hours. Does that make sense? Thank you x

yes I’ve heard this. But being on the ambulance it’s a bit hard to find the time to pump because we can be with a patient for hours, and you can’t just disappear. If a high priority call comes in there’s not much I can do. I can pump on my break but that will just be once during a shift 🫤 x

Supply works on supply and demand, the more you remove the more you make... so similarly the less you remove the less you make.
Also you're risking your health by delaying pumping, and that's on your employer if they're not giving you pumping breaks. Going long periods without pumping, when you'd normally pump or feed risks mastitis

it’s going to seem that way because you are emptying your breasts more often, so don’t worry that you’re not getting as many oz when you pump in between feeds you’re still signaling to your body to make milk ☺️

Do you go out when your pregnancy? Maybe you need to be treated the same as being pregnant x

Oof, you're going to be very sore only pumping once in twelve hours when baby is that young. Can you get some more pumps in? Your work should be able to accommodate that.

They should allow you to get more then one break to accommodate you unless you pump while working

Thanks everyone. I think because I’m a student at university and not actually employed by the ambulance trust there’s not an awful lot they can do. Especially since I’m working around different stations across the shire. Once I eventually start the job properly when baby is about 8 months old hopefully they can make accommodations because I’ll be permanently employed by them. And hopefully I’m still breast feeding! I will do what I can and will take all advice on board, I appreciate it 🥰🥰

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Took 9 week old to a family party where there was loud music and she was next to the speaker for most of the time (about 3 hours). She slept through most of it. Do you think she has hearing loss from this?

Freaking out right now :(

Struggling in the 4 month regression

How are people getting out of the 4 month regression? I’ve been looking it up and it says I need to be trying to put him down drowsy but awake but this does not work for my LO. Every time we do this he ends up being wide awake and after almost an hour of trying we have to contact nap/rock to sleep. I want to avoid rocking to sleep because now when he wakes up in the night he needs to be rocked back to sleep which he never used to need.

Nights are constantly broken because we are up 2-3 times to rock him back to sleep. Please give me your tips on how to survive this and how to get out of this!! Constantly feel like I’m failing and doing something wrong
