Fitting weaning into routine

How are you all fitting weaning in alongside your normal feeding/napping routine?
I'm only on day four and the last few days have been ok as my little girl generally has a nap before lunch, then a bottle then I try her with some food.
Today she didn't have a morning nap after her first feed, had a play then had her bottle at the usual time and then was too sleepy to try food. So do I try it later when she wakes up before her next bottle, after her next bottle or just give it a miss for today? ๐Ÿ˜… I'm concerned it's too late in the day if she has food after her next bottle as it's close to bedtime!

This is my routine if it helps x
(We don't have a napping schedule he just naps when he naps ๐Ÿ˜…)

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Wake up- Bottle & breakfast: between 7-8
(I wait about 20mins for his bottle to settle then breakfast).

Bottle & Dinner between 4-5 (again wait 20mins for his bottle to settle then offer dinner)

Bath, bottle and bed between 7-8.

I was offering lunch but he doesn't seem to want solids at lunch time so we just do brekkie and dinner at the moment.

I find it hard at the minute with the wake Windows only being 2/2hr30. I'm trying to wait an hour after a bottle before food. Mine had a bottle at 9.30 then had a nap so didn't have his porridge until about 11.30.. I still try give him a little puree after his tea time bottle but he ended up vomiting most of it up last night whilst he was having his bedtime bottle ๐Ÿ˜…

It's perfectly fine to offer food straight after a milk feed. It doesn't really matter if they don't eat much. It's all about giving them the opportunity to taste things, grab at things, attempt to get it in their mouths and largely spit it out until they master moving it to the back of their mouth to swallow it.

Personally, I have a toddler so trying to just offer the little man something to eat/play with when she's eating. We do also offer purรฉes at that time. He absolutely scoffs everything and it doesn't seem to matter of he just had a feed beforehand. He is EBF though so maybe quantities are smaller. He does seem to only have a "milk snack" before his naps though, if he has had a good size portion of solids. I have found sometimes meals run a bit close to sleep times but so far it hasn't affected his sleep.xx

thank you! We're the same! She just naps when she naps so it's tricky knowing if she's going to want a nap after a bottle or not ๐Ÿ™ˆ she's been pretty consistent the past couple days with having a nap then bottle then food but today cause there was no nap food was just not happening ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ok so I might try her again later if she's up for it after her next bottle โ˜บ๏ธ I've just been trying to do it at lunchtime as she usually falls asleep in the morning and then cause she's only having one meal at the moment I didn't want to do it in the evening just so I can keep an eye on her for reactions etc :)

Avatar

yes same ๐Ÿ˜‚ I've been trying to steam food for BLW and it takes sooooo long some of it to get it to the right softness by which point she's starting to get tired and fed up ๐Ÿ™ˆ
I'm just doing a lunchtime meal at the moment as I'm terrified of her having a reaction to something or being sick at bedtime ๐Ÿ˜…

that's what I'm struggling with! I'm making sure she's having her bottle first but she quite often gets sleepy after that and then isn't interested in food and I don't want to wait til after she's had a nap as for example today's nap has so far been two hours so we're getting on for the next bottle and starting the cycle all over again ๐Ÿ˜‚
I might just see how she is after this nap and bottle and if she's not in an evening grump I might try some then โ˜บ๏ธ otherwise today is a write off and try again tomorrow ๐Ÿ™ˆ

I've not introduced any of the Allergens like dairy, egg and nuts yet but I haven't really thought about allergies to porridge or fruit/veg purees. But touch wood we haven't had a problem. Haven't tried any baby Led stuff apart from those organix puff Crisps which he did enjoy holding and eating ๐Ÿ™‚

I think we might try an allergen on Thursday when my partner is home, probably start in dairy to see how she goes!
We're doing a bit of a mix of BLW and purees but she does enjoy grabbing broccoli and munching on that! โ˜บ๏ธ I did do carrots but got too nervous as they didn't ever seem soft enough so mashed them up ๐Ÿ˜…

Avatar

thank you! I'll look into it as I've had a couple recommendations for her books! โ˜บ๏ธ That's what I'm thinking for introducing dairy โ˜บ๏ธ I've not introduced any fruit yet but it'll be good when we do cause then I can eat the fruit and yoghurt with her ๐Ÿ˜‹
That's a good idea with the purees too! Might try that! โ˜บ๏ธ

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but sheโ€™s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i donโ€™t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

Iโ€™m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. Iโ€™m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. Iโ€™m trying everything to get him to settle. Itโ€™s a load of overwhelming stress. Iโ€™m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

I feel like just a milk cow

Hi I have a 16 day old via c section, I'm a FTM never having been around babies before as I am the youngest of my household and from a small family. My husband is fantastic with our little one. But ever since I've had the baby I just feel like the only thing I'm good for is producing milk. I feel disconnected from my husband like the only reason he's around is because am producing milk. We were having some issues before the baby and we're struggling it took a while to feel like he was onboard even though he said he was from the moment we found out. I dunno if I'm feeling like a spear part because I'm lacking confidence with baby or because I feel like he wouldn't mind being a single dad. Is this postpartum hormones or something else?

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Crawling

Did anyoneโ€™s little one start crawling yet? I feel like we are falling behind but really have no idea. Iโ€™m trying to introduce more floor time but itโ€™s been rough because of having hardwood floors and our 80 lb oblivious to life dog. I got us a carpet for the living room and trying to put the dog out more when the weather allows. She sits like a pro and will roll to get the things she needs๐Ÿ˜… but no real signs of crawling yet.
