Colostrum colour

I've not started collecting yet but have seen droplets come directly from the nipple and its been a similar colour to yours. Not sure what it means but you're not alone xx

From what I’ve read everyone’s colostrum can be different in colour! Congrats on collecting so much!!!

I’ve been hand expressing mine and I get the clear colostrum at first and the more you massage the more yellow it goes, I think it’s all the same goodness though 😊

Mine looks like that too, sometimes more clear droplets, sometimes more cloudy. 😃

Mine is that colour, managed to get around 55ml so far over a week and it's all like colour, midwife said it's normal x

Mines yellow no clear, however this is baby no.4 and I have breastfed previously so putting it down to that.

I can’t get any out 😩 does anyone have any tips or tricks? X

@Charlotte Try a warm compress, e.g. a heat pack or warm flannels, massage the breast and nipple and relax as much as you can. You might only get a few droplets to start with, but if you keep trying, it'll likely become more.

thanks! I’ve been trying the last couple of nights, tried after a shower today but still no luck. I will try the heat packs/warm flannels tomorrow x

How many weeks are you all that are collecting? I’m 36 but unsure if to wait until 37? I’m so impatient 😂😂

I was 36 when I started, midwife said it was fine as I was due for induction at 37 weeks

May I ask you all if it's the midwife who told you to collect the colostrum prior to baby's arrival? :) I am asking cause mine told me today ''do not do it yourself before baby is here... it can create early labour!''. I am a little lost on if we have to do it or not. I am 36 weeks+2 days preggo and will breast feed.

@Péline Hey, yes, my hospital provided me with a colostrum harvesting kit. However, my community midwife told me that colostrum harvesting is still a new thing, and she was unaware that the hospital actually did that. Personally, I've come to learn that my community midwife isn't for following the latest research or developments, and I've been relying on the hospital midwives and consultant instead for info.

As far as I know, unless someone has a history of pre-term labour or other relevant conditions, it's unlikely to induce labour. The theory is that because hand expressing releases Oxytocin, which is a key hormone in labour and birth, that this may induce labour. In practice, though, it doesn't 100% make sense because breastfeeding other children or having sex also releases oxytocin. As far as I've learned, collecting from 36/37 weeks is fine, but look out for any signs of labour, e.g., if you experience cramping after hand expressing. Could you call your hospital triage to ask for clarification?
