So my son has two play areas. His playroom (half of our living room) and his bedroom. His playroom has a few toys that stay out all the time (nugget, Pickler, kitchen) and a toy shelf that i rotate about once a month. I don't follow any theme for the playroom just try to cater to the skills he's working on developing at the moment. Mostly his lovevery and kiwico toys.
He has a small toy shelf in his bedroom and this one I rotate very often....every 4 to 10 days. In his room I like to do themed toy/book rotation. Its definitely over the top but his little face lighting up when he has all new (library books, not buying new every week) books just melts my heart.
Anyone else get kind of obsessive with their toy rotations?

Thank you! I spend wayyyy too much time on his rotations haha but it brings us both a lot of joy.

These toy rotations are awesome! I can tell it brings you joy!

I love it! Where is the shelf from? ☺️

its from lovevery. Its not very big as far as how much you can display at once but it has built in hidden storage so you can tuck away all the toys you aren't currently using

Thank you

@Bee I'm blown away. This is beautiful and you put so much effort into this! I wish I had the time and creaitivity!! You inspire me to try that for my boys. Keep going momma, you're doing great!!

Thank you so much, Lisa!!!! ♡

This is inspirational

Wow! As an elementary teacher, I am impressed. I love it! ⭐⭐⭐

Thank you @Esmeralda my little one just turned 2 but I plan to continue these rotations into school age

I'm actually going to buy a similar shelf this week to start doing the same. Your pictures are a great inspiration! I love the thematic approach... I do the same for my kids, with library books and toys around the house... but I usually have time to just improvise. But I'm going to set aside time to organize it better. And I'll also rotate the huge amount of toys we have throughout the house! Teaching is my passion... And I just love to see things like this. You're doing a great job for your kiddo! ❤️

Thank you @Esmeralda I find it fun. My little one wants to read every library book 100x so it's good for both of us that I switch things out often. I like doing the themes upstairs in his room where we can deep dive into a subject and then downstairs I have another toy shelf in his playroom that isn't a theme just 8 toys that I rotate out based on what skills he's working on - those are mostly his lovevery toys.

How do you find time to do these creative things and set up activities for your LO? Even before I became a mom of two, I struggled to find time to plan, create and do learning activities. (It was a bit easier as a classroom teacher since time is allotted. But as a Mom it's hard to find time when everything demands constant daily attention... The house, kids, husband, life, and tiredness.)

Hi @Esmeralda finding balance is so hard, right? I feel like I never have a spare second.
I am fortunate to be a stay at home Mom so I do get a lot more time with my little one. But the truth is my way of managing things is probably not sustainable haha I have almost zero time for myself and go to bed completely exhausted every night. This might be TMI but I struggled with infertility and miscarriages for many years and didn't have my son until my mid-30s. I know that he will likely be my only child and that these early years fly by so I am just trying to make them as magical as I can. My son "helps" me a lot with my cleaning and cooking and because we turn it into an activity during his awake hours I don't have to find time for those things during his sleep. During his sleeping hours I typically prep art/craft projects. I rotate the play shelf in his room about once a week and try get as many library books as I can that week to make it into a theme. The playroom I only rotate about once a month.

Wow! I feel the same way. Then as moms we got a lot in common. I feel fortunate to be able to stay home and set life long foundations while enjoying my baby. I did that for my oldest. And I am going to do the same for my youngest. Although I would like to work in a classroom and socialize with peer teachers again, I do not want to miss my baby's milestones. I manage things almost the same way... It's not sustainable. I too go to bed exhausted because I'm a very hands-on, involved mom. But I just gotta ask you one thing... How do you get your son to "help" with house chores? My son is 4 years old and I kinda feel like he's still too young to help me. I'm curious, how do you turn it into an activity? Is it productive, or just for fun. Like pretending to wash dishes with Mama? Pretending to wash the bathroom? I struggle with getting home things done while my kids are awake because I'm filled with guilt that I should be either playing with them or teaching and exploring with them.

By the way, it's not TMI. I also had difficulty becoming pregnant for about 10 years. I'm 41 years old. I'm an older Mama, but blessed!

Sending you a PM and awesome tree ! Love the lights

How often do you rotate themes?

Answered my own question by reading previous comments lol.
But this is very neat! I would love to start doing something like this with my LO. Does your partner help
Maintain everything? Mine wouldn’t and that would probably drive me crazy

@Rocky it really depends. Some subjects hold our attention more than others. The rotation in his room can last a few days or a few weeks.
My husband doesn't help with the rotations. He simply doesn't have the time.

When did you start this for your lo?

@Rocky when my son was about 5 months old. He's now 2.
