Weaning

Lo one is 21 weeks this Sunday and I was taking to family members about waiting another 3 weeks to wean her as I don't feel she is quite ready yet. While baby has great head control, good grasp and is able to sit in her high chair with minimal support, she is not showing any interest in food itself. So I wanted to hold off till she was 24 weeks, she would still be in the weaning window but a comment was made about me "cutting it too fine" to the 26 weeks.
Like, I know the window is 17-26weeks but am I wrong to wait another couple of weeks? I didn't want to start the process if baby wasn't ready.

You could always consult with your phn but your the mammy and go with your gut feeling xx my baby is almost 4 months and I’m getting anxious the thought of weaning him 🙈 I’ll be holding off as long as I can 🙈🙈

I didn’t even know about this window . I had a long chat with My PHN about weaning today and she told me to start when he is 6 months, unless I really see baby getting not satisfied with milk.

I genuinely don't think baby is there yet. She doesn't stare me down while I'm eating or begrudge me every bite of my food and I have offered her my food to see if she would reach out and try grab it but she really doesn't seem that bother or curious.
And from what I've read that is something you should wait for..

Interesting Aisling ! My baby is 21 weeks now and he just started looking at my food and funny enough today I offered and he reached but it is still very subtle . The PHN mentioned that it becomes very obvious the interest for food ( like trying to grab your fork ) so Iam
Expecting to see it much more in next coming weeks . If this happens then I would try before the 6-months day .

We gave it a go at 17 weeks (under advisement from the PHN) we did it for 4/5 days and littlen clearly wasn’t ready. I’ve just started up again (21 weeks on Monday) and she seems to be doing a bit better with it this time round. So no you’re absolutely not in the wrong. What works for one baby, may not work for another

I went to the pregnancy and baby fair and I spoke to a dietitian and nutritionist (Aileen cox blundell) and she said to me whatever you do, please wait until the 6 month mark. That’s based on research and recommendations of the WHO. She said although the baby might be showing physical signs of readiness, internally, they are most ready from 6 months. I was going to start weaning soon because my little chunk is eager, but I’m going to hold off.

Obviously it’s entirely up to you and you should go with what you feel though. She has a couple of books (one of which I actually bought) and has an instagram account with loads of information! 👍

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Bedtime

What time are you getting your LOs down for the night now and how are you finding bedtime? We’ve had the sane routine since my daughter was a few weeks old - bath with her older sister and 6.45, followed by a bottle and ideally in bed by 7.30. This worked at first but over the last few weeks she’s been fighting it a lot and, with the exception of a few days last week which were a lot easier, it’s a bit of a battle to get her down and features a lot of screaming and resettling. Not sure if we are putting her down too early or late? Her last nap is usually a cat nap (30-45 mins) and finishes by 6. She’s pretty good at settling herself from a night feed, but seems to be unable to do it at bedtime, even with her dummy.
