Our 8 week old has been really unsettled over the last 24-48 hours and we're not sure why. He's not been finishing his bottle, sometimes takes less than half, and during feeding he's writhing, squirming, crying and really distressed.
He brings up his milk as well, not projectile though. He just seems very uncomfortable and I'm not sure how to help him?
We do pause feeding to sit him up to burp him but even this distresses him to the point of crying til he's red in the face. He generally poops every 3 days and did go yesterday, we thought maybe he'd been constipated and that he'd feel better but he has just got worse! Any idea what could be wrong with him?
Only other symptoms are that he coughs a little and sometimes gags but I thomk this is normal? Thank you

If you're breastfeeding then I'd maybe ask the health visitor or try get a doctor's appointment, if he's bottle fed then have you considered it's maybe his milk and it might be the wrong one?

he's bottle fed. Yes I'll look into whether it might be type of Formula?? It's so difficult to work out what's wrong...

don't worry, you're doing an amazing job

We had this issue with our LB who’s 7 weeks but different formulas made him worse (we eventually found cow and gate to be what settles him best but he was still unhappy) What formula are you on and what teat size are you using?
I spoke to the HV who said he might have reflux especially with the coughing/gagging. We also had him waking up crying after being laid down for a little while. We got prescribed infant gaviscon and it seems to have helped loads.

If you’re thinking it could be the formula, look at the make up of the formulas on https://infantmilkinfo.org/type-of-infant-milk/
Our midwife told us if we’re going to change formula, to change to one which had different whey:casein ratio as this is usually what causes upset.

My little ones the same at 9 weeks, he’s been like it since 4 weeks and every bottle feed is just a challenge he’s putting on weight so the doctors arnt really bothered but it’s so draining trying to figure out what’s wrong on your own! I was told it was reflux but the gaviscon made him really constipated and he rarely spits up his milk, he was on anti reflux milk but was the same on this, we’ve changed from Kendamil to cow and gate but honestly not much change! At my wits end now! I feel you x

What size teats are you using? You may have to up a size. This was happening to my little girl pretty recently but I’d gone up a size, and I think it was too fast for her so went back down. She doesn’t let me wind her half way so I just give her the full bottle and wind after and sometimes even just when she’s sitting there. If you’re worried about his pooing ask the doctors if they can do a sample and they’ll check to see if he’s allergic to the formula he might need dairy free x

Vomiting, coughing, gagging, and fussiness during feeds are signs of reflux. It may also be a bug. I would speak to HV or GP x
