Breast pumps???

Hi everyone! I’ve seen this question asked a few times recently but there doesn’t seem to be a consensus and I could do with some advice on electric breast pumps! I’ve been gifted a MAM manual pump but could do with electric recommendations! Due to having epilepsy I’ve been advised by my consultant and specialist nurse to either exclusively express or combo express and BF because a) my husband needs to take on a lot of the night feeds to begin with as I’ll be vulnerable to seizures and b) breast milk will contain trace amounts of the medications I take and help to wean our little one slowly meaning less stress hopefully 😅 even if I can just keep it up for a short time it’s better than nothing. If anyone else is dealing with similar and feels like their brain is melting as well please let me know 🤣

I hired a Medela symphony, which is pretty good. However, I'm exclusively pumping, so decided to splash out and get the elvie and, for me, it's amazing - output the same as with the symphony I'd say and way more convenient. Expensive though!!

I’ve been eyeing up the elvies! They are spenny and I’m willing to invest I’ve just been on the fence because the reviews seem to be so mixed 😅 did you get the stride or one of the others?

Medela freestyle 👍

I was nervous because the reviews were mixed but decided to go for it and see for myself. I went for the normal elvie double pump (not the stride). Personally, I think it's totally worth the money. The only bad things I can say about it are that it's not completely silent (there's a clicking sound when on) and it's annoying having to dry all of the bits before you use them. However, these are small niggles and it's definitely worth it for the convenience. I was also worried about output if it wasn't hospital grade but I've had no issues at all with that!

Medela or Lansinoh are the only brands I will be looking at because they have different sized funnels for different sized nipples. Really important if you are exclusively expressing to get a pump that fits. Also need to be able to get replacement and spare parts easily. Good to have a set drying and a set ready to go. I exclusively pumped for the first 3 months for our little girl. If you are combi feeding I recommend getting a silicone collector that you can attach while feeding. Make sure you get one with a lanyard as it is disaster if it falls off due to wiggly baby.
I never got on with the handsfree. I think they are best for smaller breasts as when I tried I needed to manipulate my breasts and move the pump around at different angles. But I could connect my Lansinoh to a battery pack so wasn't connected to a plug socket.

thanks so much there’s so much to think about it’s a minefield and once I’ve got one I defo can’t afford to try another if it doesn’t work out 😅 I think that’s why I feel so flapped about picking one! I’ve never heard of the lansinoh so I’ll have to have a gander!

yeah I don’t mind if it’s worth the money because I would plan to re use or sell, I’ve just been dreading picking one not getting on with it and feeling like I might as well have made a bonfire with the money spent on it 😆 it’s silly to be this stressed over a piece of technology but still! My husband suggested just getting a single pump to keep the cost down just in case we only use it for a short time. I’ll have to mull it over 😅 thanks for the advice though!

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!

Rapid cool/ hot shot method

Sorry if this sound stupid but how are we doing the hot shot method?
Are we boiling the kettle and letting it cool a little before adding to hot flask? Then with the cool water do you boil the kettle and leave it to cool right down before putting into another flask?
My baby brain is fried trying to work out the easiest way!

Rant/WWYD

My sister (youngest, 24) has two kids, 4 & 1, and i (oldest, 30) just have my one who’s 6mo old right now, so i ask her for advice or call her to vent about things sometimes. Well im tired of her turning around and telling my other family members that I’m “losing my sh*t.” Literally have not lost my sh*t nor have i ever freaked out to her about my baby, i just call her to talk and tell her what stage my baby is in or talk through how im feeling, but she chooses to tell people that im like a complete nutcase or something which worries me that my family is going to start being judgmental about me as a mother or looking at me funny like I’m some fragile ticking time bomb.

What would you do in this situation? I’m already pretty much decided that I’ll stop telling her anything about my struggles, but I’m almost at the point where i feel like it should be confronted because she, of all people, should understand what I’m going through.
