Baby sleeping

My baby will not go to sleep unless I’m holding her. I mean…she will SCREAM bloody murder if I try to lay her in her crib alone. She is inconsolable unless I pick her up, then she stops immediately when I do. Any advice?

I recently read that holding baby and walking calmly and silently for several minutes helps destimulate and prep them for sleep. Been trying it for the last few days and putting down has been way easier. I've been starting 10-15 minutes before the end of the wake window. My baby is also a screamer who can't be laid down. I feel for you. Exhausting

ok I’ll give this a try. I think I definitely wait too long to lay her down at the end of a wake window. She gets over tired and overstimulated, so that definitely doesn’t help.

Good luck! Let me know if you find something else that works

No advice, just wanted to say I’m right there with you! I’ve tried so many things and my 4 month old baby girl refuses to nap anywhere but my arms. I’ve honestly given up on crib naps at this point and just do contact naps. I keep reminding myself I will never get this time with her back, and even I feel like I’m not being productive enough, spending time with her even when she’s sleeping is more important than productivity. It’s hard though. I feel for you! You’re doing a great job. 💕

You can look into one of the cry it out methods. Try sleep sacks and white noise (we use SwaddleUp or Sleepea when baby is in her crib).

Avatar

thank you for saying this. I feel so guilty not being able to get things done. My house is not clean and there’s always laundry to do. But, you’re so right. This time will pass sooo quickly.

sleep sacks worked for her when she was smaller. She hates being restrained nowadays. I do use the white noise, which I think helps her stay asleep once she FINALLY goes to sleep. I worry about cry it out with her because her cries can be borderline scary. I don’t want her to blow a gasket. It doesn’t hurt to do some research though. ❤️

It might be worth a try again with a transition sack so she still gets some comfort from them but doesn't have to be restrained. I'm with you, though, cry it out isn't for our family either but we've lucked out so far with a chill sleeper.

I’ll look into a transition sack. I didn’t even know that was a thing! Thank you.

I only discovered recently too. We got the SwaddleUp and Sleepea ones that have removable pieces on the shoulders to let baby's arms out!

perfect!! Heading to Amazon now lol! 🤣

whenever I transfer her, she wakes up with any minutes. It’s like if she can’t smell me or feel my body heat, forget it. She always ends up on her side/halfway on her stomach when she co-sleeps with us and she sleeps FOREVER. I get nervous about it when she’s in her own bed. It she turns her head and has great neck control so it’s ok.

I tried Ferber method for the first time two nights ago and my baby screamed his head off for an hour and a half then fell asleep. Last night I tried putting him down for an hour but just like you the second I put him down his eyes pop open. I decided to give it another shot. I put him down awake and gave him a bunch of kisses, said goodnight and left the room. He sucked his thumb for about 40 mins then passed out without a single cry. I'm not sure if sleep training is working or if he was just too tired to cry 😂 but I was amazed. I can update again tonight!

keep me posted, please!!

plenty of people sleep train and their babies are fine. Hence the Ferber method being a well known sleep training method recommended on many baby sites such as what to expect, pampers, etc. Babies cry because they are babies and can't communicate that they're uncomfortable. Of course he's uncomfortable anywhere but my arms but he can't sleep in my arms forever. My son was not hungry, wet, bored or any of that. He wants to contact nap all day and contact sleep all night. This is impossible as essentially a single mom with no support, just me and baby 24/7 for weeks on end. He only cried one night as my post said and then was fine and self soothed to sleep without a single peep the second. Many moms recommend Ferber. Psychology in babies is just a educated guess on what's going on. Respectfully.

Update!!! So I’ve been putting my girl in her crib at the very first sign that I think she’s sleepy. After being awake for about 90 mins, she gets really quiet and starts staring at me, or when she yawns but she is still very alert, I will lay her in her crib. I leave the room and she lays there and looks around and talks to herself and then drifts off to sleep. She has not screamed at nap time the last couple of days. This has not worked at bedtime yet, but I will take the successful naps over nothing at all, lol!!

Avatar

Wow!!! That's amazing!

Avatar

thank you!! I will also say, I lay her on her side instead of her back. She has pretty good neck control so I feel ok not putting her on her back at this point. Maybe the position helps as well.

Avatar

Oo that's a great idea. I suspect mine would like that too. Mine is so strong I'd be comfortable with any position at this point

give it a try, worth a shot!

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Took 9 week old to a family party where there was loud music and she was next to the speaker for most of the time (about 3 hours). She slept through most of it. Do you think she has hearing loss from this?

Freaking out right now :(
