CMPA

My baby who we thought had reflux has now been given Aptamil Pepti 1 as doctor thinks he has cows milk allergy.
Has anyone else’s baby been put onto this milk? How long until the vomiting stops after the switch to new milk?

What we're the symptoms? She spits up of course (like any other baby) but I'm just wondering if there's anything else to look out for

Avatar

With my first all of her symptoms went instantly EXCEPT for the throwing up. We then had to add Carobel to her milk to thicken it up.

My now 5 week old is already on pepti 1 and Carobel as she was also showing all the signs of cmpa

Pepti 1 is a really thin formula which is why it doesn’t really stop the throwing up, so by thicken it up it usually helps baby keep it down x

My baby is EBF and we’re one week into my exclusion diet for suspected CMPA also , she is still spitting up too and it’s frustrating because I just want to take it all of her 😪

Avatar

so constantly being sick, coughing/choking, crying in pain, rash on face and neck, always gets really deep hiccups too and can hear his tummy gurgling x

Avatar

ahh thank you, I think we probably need add carobel then as he is sick so much and like you said it’s very watery so constantly having to change his clothes (and mine)! I’m praying that this will work 🙏🏼 poor little thing x

Avatar

it’s awful isn’t it, it makes us mums feel helpless when we are trying our hardest and nothing seems to work 😭 x

Avatar

do I need a doctor to prescribe the Carobel or can I just buy it over the weekend? X

Avatar

My little girl has just been put on pepti 1, she was originally on kendamil. Its only been about 4 days and she's still spitting up a lot of milk I think it's because it's quite watery. Her poos are a lot better and she's a bit more settled. I've read it takes about 2 weeks to see proper results x

Avatar

poor angel, hope she's better now x

Does the carobel help with the throwing up? And also what bottles are you using. We have tommee tippee but she drinks 4oz bottles so fast, I think it might be part of the problem with the spitting up. Are there better bottles with a slower flow?

Avatar

ask your doctor to prescribe it, it comes with a little purple scoop - with my 5 week old we’re using less than 1/4 a scoop of carobel, but with my first we were using 3 full scoops per 6 oz bottle, so you just need to try it with your little one and see how much they need to help them, it’s a lot of hassle but don’t be put off if it doesn’t help straight away, baby might just need more or less thickener adding 😊 xx

Avatar

you can buy it from a pharmacy it will be about £6 or £7 or get it on Amazon, but your doctors will also prescribe it when they’re open next week xx

hey, hows it going with the pepti 1 and carobel?

My baby is 6 weeks and had the exact same symptoms she was on normal aptamil for first 3 weeks and she was always in pain screaming for hours every day
Doc prescribed pepti 1, shes been on it for nearly 3 weeks now, there was progress, she did seem less settled although her reflux has become worse, shes even constantly spitting up clear liquid

For the past 3 days the constant screaming in pain has been back

Just wondering how your LO is getting on with the milk? Still showing the symptoms you mentioned above?

Avatar

I've had exactly this! The screaming in pain and cannot be put down, at first Pepti one seemed to have eased the other symptoms and my son was getting on fine and now this!! Hoping to call the GP today and see what they suggest, my gut is telling me to switch milk (i read a lot of articles on Mumsnet) because I can't go on with him crying every time he's awake the poor sod

Avatar

from my experience if baby is still screaming in pain you do need to switch formula. We tried neocate syneo before, maybe one you can trial. Ask for a new formula, don’t suggest it as doctors aren’t always very helpful unless you tell them what you want (our doctors anyway)

We new we had the right formula as she didn’t cry in pain during the first bottle change, and everyday all the other symptoms eased. But we new instantly that the milk helped.

She’s 20 months now, and was on prescription formula until recently x

Avatar

thanks lovely, yes I've spoken to them today and we are trialing going back to cows milk, if the symptoms present again we will go on neocate.

All fun and games these first few months 🤣🙈

Avatar

So I spoke to the doctor again today to ask for thickener and they instead prescribed sma allergy milk as he’s still got the same problems and being sick more than ever! Gosh I really hope this works, this will be 4th different formula he has been on 😩 x

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅

Signs of Neurodivergent Toddler

Any moms of neurodivergent toddlers who could help me out? My son is 13 months old. I know that is technically too early for a diagnosis, but I have a gut feeling that he is on the autism spectrum.

The main sign he shows is hand leading. He does not point at all, and instead will take my hand and lead me anywhere he wants to go,
getting very frustrated if I do not follow.

He is also extremely sensitive to being touched, especially when it comes to hats and putting clothes on. He won’t let anything touch his head or face and I have to fight him to brush his teeth, comb his hair, etc.

He’s very interested in things that aren’t toys and will repeat the same behavior over and over. He can go in and out of doors or walk up and down stairs for hours. He loves taking things out of containers and putting the back in repeatedly.

We recently took him on his first vacation and he REALLY struggled with the change. He struggles with any type of transition or change in routine.

He laughs, makes eye contact, mostly responds to his name, but doesn’t do any other gestures.

Normal toddler behavior or signs of ASD? Let me know your thoughts!

11 month old constantly standing in cot

Please tell me someone has some advice for this cause wow it’s trying. My almost 11 month old is fully on the move now and his new favourite thing is repeatedly pulling to stand in his cot. The problem is that he wears a sleep sack (mainly so his legs don’t get stuck between the bars tbh lol) so he’s not stable enough to lower himself down. So earlier he fell backwards and hit is head and now we feel like we can’t just leave him to it. Typically it’s his first full day at nursery tomorrow and my first day back at work IT’S LIKE HE KNOWS!!
Please tell me someone has some tips. Currently we are quietly placing him back on his back every time but he just keeps doing it! 🤣🤡

Bedtime

What time are you getting your LOs down for the night now and how are you finding bedtime? We’ve had the sane routine since my daughter was a few weeks old - bath with her older sister and 6.45, followed by a bottle and ideally in bed by 7.30. This worked at first but over the last few weeks she’s been fighting it a lot and, with the exception of a few days last week which were a lot easier, it’s a bit of a battle to get her down and features a lot of screaming and resettling. Not sure if we are putting her down too early or late? Her last nap is usually a cat nap (30-45 mins) and finishes by 6. She’s pretty good at settling herself from a night feed, but seems to be unable to do it at bedtime, even with her dummy.
