Me and my ex are currently going through a nasty breakup. We were both supposed to be going half’s on both of our children’s car seats and putting some towards a spare one which would be used in his van/grandparents. Today he’s said that the car seats are my problem and that he will get a normal one for his van and his parents. He can’t get an extended rear facing one for his van so I said that we would’ve swapped vehicles at the weekend so I could work when the youngest is too big for the rear facing car seat in his van (obviously when we were together). His idea of normal is to forward face when he’s out of his infant carrier which he did with our first at just under a year old which I’ve now found out is illegal, I would rear face him which I still do now and he turns him back, he purchased a super cheap seat for his van and his parents car, and is now harnessing him AND using the seat belt. His parents have 2 cars and one isn’t used so when we split is there any legal way that I can say that he has to use a certain seat that is suitable for the baby?

I don’t think there is anything you can do legally about what type of seat he uses but you can report him when baby is in the car to police and they can do a welfare check if he isn’t using the right seat he can get wrong

I second I'd find out where they're going and when and ring up as an anonymous driver by and say you've seen a small baby forward facing and you're concerned. Then when he accuses you say no I never called it your choice etc and then he should get embarrassed a stranger is concerned with his parenting and make the change. I'm not being funny we have a van and we can rear face as long as we need it in
