My 2 almost 3 year old I think has autism and I can't get her to sleep. Dr prescribed 1 mg of melatonin but that doesn't help ( she stays up until 4 am most of the time and no naps during the day with lots of walks to try to ware her out also give her the melatonin at 8pm ) She gets up and turns the light on and thinks it's a game. So right now we have tape over the light switch. Any help for advice ? Also how does everyone cope with destructive behaviors? She also hits her sister and tries to grab her toys and hit her. I know she's probably jealous but we do 1:1 with her so she knows we love her and she gets that time but it's hard to know what else to try? I'm one exhausted mama.

Hi 👋 welcome to the group! Autism comes in many forms, some parents find their children have trouble sleeping and eating and others don't. Try looking into weighted blankets as well as laying down next to your child in a dark room (or whatever works). It really is a thing where you will probably have to physically be right next to her through the entire process. Keep a log of her sleep/sleepless pattern as this will help your case further down the line also 💕

There are so many non-medical methods out there available from special cutlery, sleeping aids, Sensory stimulating aids, communication aids I mean amazon and disability shopping websites are my go-to places lol 😆

Exactly 💯 it's about trial and error and perseverance, with children especially autistic children they take longer to get used to things so it's better to try a new technique and give it about 1-2 weeks before writing it off and move onto the next 🥰

Thanks everyone
