First scan Date

Im 5 weeks pregnant and I spoke very briefly with a midwife last week literally 10 minutes or so. I have since had my invite through for my first scan but it isn’t until the end of November which I know Is when I’ll be 12 weeks but it just seems so long to wait. Particularly as it’s my first baby and I havnt got a clue what to expect 🫣

I’m 5 weeks pregnant too and shared the same thoughts, so we booked a private scan for 6 weeks. Just to make sure baby is in the right place and has started growing nicely. Maybe have a look to see which clinics are nearby to you that offer the same service? Xx

You can go for private scans not too expensive, but the nhs don’t really offer many scans , your 12 week scan they measure the fluid around baby spin look at the baby brain other things i would definitely recommend going for private scans x

Hi - we felt the exact same. 12 weeks is a long time to wait, especially for something you can't see or feel. We also booked a reassurance scan - best decision we made, We did ours when I was around 8 weeks and it was so lovely to see this little bean shape with a healthy heart beat x

Yep, it’s an awfully long wait!! We’ve booked an early scan for the 27th October, just to get some reassurance!!

Thanks ladies, I have looked at a few different company’s just wasn’t sure on what to do and if I was maybe just over thinking. I will look at getting something booked 💕

That’s normal, the NHS scans are for medical reasons. If you want an earlier scan you’ll have to pay privately.

I used window to the womb with my first baby and plan to do that again with this one, can't recommend them enough, hopefully you have one near you, congratulations!🥰❤️

My 12 week scan is on the 27th November😩 i booked a reasurance scan at window to the womb for the 25th of this month when I'll be 7 weeks 3 days as any earlier they may not see baby clearly so rather than risk losing £90 i thought id add a week on and if I'm futher than dates add up that's even better 😂 first time I've ever had an early one but after a chemical pregnancy in may im so anxious. Struggling with waiting 3 weeks let alone 7 x

Ladies, do you count your weeks from the date of conception or from the 1st day of last period as it's counted by midwives? Thank you

Avatar

First day of last period the gp midwives etc don’t care about ovulation dates.

Thank you @Em! 😊

Avatar

Because me and my husband were trying for quite a while I have the natural cycles app which has worked it for me from the date it calculated my ovulation, my app is saying 5 weeks so I’m just going off that for now until I have a dating scan x

Thanks my lovely @Natalie

You due date is from the first day of your last period though, I’m on pregnancy #5 and that’s how medical professionals work it out.

I mentioned my ovulation date at an Early scan with my daughter she said “oh no we don’t use that as a date just your period”, I was a week out (ovulated late) and it made no difference that I knew that already

Avatar

@Em Would you recommend an early scan, privately? First pregnancy, single, blessed with my "bean" and love them already, but want to get checked earlier than nhs offers.

Avatar

yeah I’d advise one but I’d say wait till 7/8 weeks closer to if you can wait. At 6 weeks it’s not remotely baby shaped and might not have a HB at 7/8 it’s more baby shaped and will have a HB.

@Em Thank you for your support, I am booking it on the week 7/8. Omg, heartbeat🥰🥰🥰 I will be in tears of happiness........

Day out after c section

Hey,
I had an emergency c section 1 week ago I obviously don't want a day out right now but I have things booked for the Easter holidays so in 2 weeks. I was just wondering if I will be overdoing it if I have a day out then or will I be ok? I would still take it as easy as I could. When did everyone feel good enough to go out?

Reduced Movements

Has anyone else gone in for monitoring for reduced movements and as soon as you arrive at triage the baby starts moving and the CTG is normal? It makes me feel like I am over reacting.

2nd pregnancy after c section

I’m not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon but in the future possibly. I just wanted to know how is pregnancy after c section like my fear is having to go through another emergency operation or even putting strain on my incision during pregnancy

Baby Movements

Hello, I’m a FTM currently 18W5D pregnant. I’ve been getting this tugging feeling in my stomach after I eat, it’s uncomfortable but not painful. I don’t know whether that’s the baby moving or round ligaments pain.

I’ve also been getting round ligament pain which is either a sharp stabbing pain or a stretching sensation. These happens whether or not I’ve eaten while the tugging feeling is only after I’ve eaten.

So, could the tugging feeling be the baby or something else.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.
