This is a really silly question but I’m panicking! I’ve been suffering with dryness since I had my baby girl who is now ten months old. I still breastfeed mainly as she’s not taking to food yet. My partner wanted to use lube this evening and told me it was water based and safe. I’ve jsut checked the bottle myself (which I wish I had done first) ans it’s actually silicone based and says to consult a doctor before using if pregnant or breastfeeding. I’m absolutely beside myself! I’ve phoned 111 and a local pharmacy and they haven’t been able to help. Does anyone know if it’s going to make my baby ill in anyway? I appreciate any advice x

We have been using it & we are EBF too. I’m sure baby will be fine 🤍

The lube won't go in to your system or affect the milk supply. Those warning are a industry must if you actually have a look most products will say ask advice if you pregnant or breastfeeding

The dryness is due to a drop in oestrogen levels when breastfeeding. I was given a cream from my GP to use. It’s probably better than using lubricant. It’s called epaderm cream. I would ring your GP, explain your concerns and suggest they prescribe you it. If you’re not working you can get it for free and it’s useful to have as it’s suitable for babies and you can also use it as a soap alternative.

Also to answer your questions, wearing a perfume would be considered more dangerous. But basically, anything you put on your skin will be absorbed and taken through your liver where it will be filtered for toxins. It’s unlikely to enter your bloodstream and get into your milk… your body is a powerhouse and very clever!
