My LO is just over 6 months old and we've been weaning since he was 5 months as he never really enjoyed his milk and I've always struggled with it.
He took to food very well and enjoys everything he tries. We are now on 3 meals a day (baby rice for breakfast, a homemade veg puree for lunch and a pot of Heinz baby food for dinner plus some custard for dessert)
However, these past 2 days he's suddenly decided to refuse his milk. He was drinking around 24 oz a day but now I struggle to get 12 oz down him.
Everywhere says babies should still be drinking lots even when you wean so I'm not sure if I should worry or if this is just the natural effect of weaning?

i haven’t started weaning yet but in the books i’ve bought it does say that their milk intake is likely to drop once they start weaning. the only thing it advises is to use milk in the recipes x

can I ask which book? Sounds good to read 🤩

yes course - i’ve got “how to wean your baby” which i bought off amazon and also ella’s kitchen “first foods book” (free if you’re signed up to boots parenting club!) both write about the milk refusal :)

thank you will get ordering x

I had this when we started weaning. She stopped taking milk. So gave her bottled water in her bottle instead, and 2-3 bottles later she took back to the milk & still enjoys food x

We've had the same issue. We started weaning at 4 months because he was never full but we took it really slowly. Only a few spoons of puree a day. We've just started very slowly building it up but this last week or 2 he's so hard to feed his milk to. It takes forever and he's not interested and just wants food instead. We're persisting and he has his milk in the evening but the day time bottles are hard work x

@Kaveri Hi lovely! Yeah my little man has always been quite strong and had pretty much full control of his head and neck at 3 months so we were confident to wean super slow. Only tips i really have is that we started with little bits of food while he was sat on our knee. I think he felt best there because it wasn't a fully new environment of a high chair, food, bibs etc. All new at once if that makes sense. So we just started with him being held and tiny bits at a time. We mixed blended peas and his milk together and froze that. He took that quite well because of the taste of his milk in it. My little man hates porridge but I think it's the texture. So suuuuuper smooth purees worked best for us. Feel free to drop me a message anytime for a chat ❤️
