I’m getting really concerned as my 2 year old has suddenly taken an aversion to brushing her teeth & keeps telling me her teeth hurt. I haven’t been able to get her to brush for a couple of days. Do I force her? I’m conscious this might make it worse. Any tips for getting a reluctant child to brush their teeth? ( either by me doing it or them doing it themselves - we’ve done both before ). It doesn’t help Colgate just changed their toothpaste for little ones so expect it tastes different too. Help!

One thing that has helped us is is a smaller toothbrush. A while back I bought an electric one with a really small head, and that has made tooth brushing much easier and he is a lot more cooperative.
I find that even though the baby tooth brushes say ‘soft’ they are still pretty hard on the gums, so could be what hurts and not the teeth.

We also used a ‘toothbrush song’ on you tube to help him focus on something other than the actual brushing…

My little one does this when he’s teething, perhaps she is getting new teeth? We sing songs, get her to brush mine, pretend to see bugs or animals in his mouth to get in, we do a tiny brush and call it quits. Don’t try and do a full brush at the moment, any small brush is fine. He comes round a few days later and is fine again
