Nappy before or after feed?

In hospital the midwives told me to nappy change before each feed to wake her up as she was quite a sleepy baby and difficult to feed. I’ve kept up with that routine and it’s been fine but wondering what other people do as she’s suddenly begun screaming all the way through nappy changes. Not sure if I need to swap it around. Advice?

I always do nappy then bottle. He sometimes screams as he wants his bottle so I just try and calm him down and change his nappy quickly. Soon after as he’s got his bottle he’s settled. It could just be the same for your little one where she’s just hungrier now as soon as she wakes up.

I also do before bottle, if I wait till after it then wakes him up and that’s a full different nightmare because he then won’t sleep and he gets himself overtired and yeah doesn’t work for us 🤣 I try to time things so I can get the nappy changed and everything prepared just before he has time to scream the place down, if course it doesn’t always go to plan though 🤣 x

I just think you should do whatever’s best for yourself and baby. I personally try to do it before but when my little girl wakes up screaming early hours it’s just easier for myself and her to do it after she’s had some milk and then continue with the bottle once the happy has been done that way no screams and more of the time she’ll still happily go back to sleep after a cuddle etc x

I was doing bum before milk but I’m now doing a little bit of milk to settle him overnight when he is doing longer stretches of sleep and then bum as he really screams else

My baby most time poo after having a feed,so not sure if I should do a feed before nappy change or between feeds

that’s a great idea; I’ll try that! Thank you.

I also do nappy before change, mainly cus my little one Hates being naked lol

Avatar

I changed it so we do nappy then feed cos she falls asleep after a feed and changing her wakes her up cos she hates being naked lol so she wasn't sleeping as well. I've found since changing her then feeding her she seems a lot happier with it 😊

Always first.
Other wise she will be all settled and your wake her up changing her nappy xx

I do nappy then bottle too. My LO doesn’t like having his nappy changed, so if we errr to do the nappy last, he would wake himself back up in distress and not settle for a nap or an activity.

I do nappy while the bottle is being prepped

Our son wakes us so hangry for his bottle and screams the place down so we’ve took to giving some bottle then nappy change then continue with bottle which works well for us

My LO wants food like yesterday when he is hungry 😂 so I do bit of milk then stop when I would wind him anyway, quick nappy change (he still cries but not as bad) then back onto the milk and he forgets all about why he was crying 😂

Mine seems never happy regardless of which way round lol sometimes have to do before and after tales a while to settle but I found playing vacuum noises on laptop help her x

Avatar

It depends, sometimes my little girl doesn’t give me any notice that she’s hungry she’ll just wake up screaming so I’ll feed her half her bottle, burp her so she’s somewhat settled then change her nappy and give the rest of her feed so then she’s settled enough for a cuddle then sleep :) x

that’s usually what I do too x

My baby screams through 95% of nappy changes whether she's hungry or not! 😅 I don't always do nappy first in the day time, depends if she's just been sleeping/ I've heard her poo... sometimes at night if she's already awake ready to feed I will do one boob, then change, then the second boob 👍😊

During the day I feed and then change nappy to keep baby more awake during the day time, but on a night I nappy change then feed as to make him settled xx

Avatar

that’s a good idea. I may try that. My girls wake windows are usually quite long in the day as it is ahahah

I've found at night, feed and half way through change the nappy then return so they get all sleepy and during the day at the end of a feed, unless of course the nappy needs to be changed urgently 😊

Avatar

Nappy first before feed, I find putting a muslin or towel underneath her on the xhange mat stops the crying. She doesn't like the cold touching her bum and legs

They kept making us do change first (we were in nicu for 11 days so had some time to get stuff figured out for home) but then he’d always poo halfway through which they weren’t expecting as he was a formula baby not a breast baby so he’d have a change after and would completely defeat the point of changing before so unless he was refusing bottle which he would occasionally, we told them we weren’t gonna be changing him before because we’re not millionaires and can’t be doing that many bum changes but it all depends on you and baby

Can someone pls help i keep making this post and nobody is responding

My boyfriend booked a trip for us to go to mexico for a week as my push present. I have severe anxiety leaving my 7 month old with my mom. I know she will be in good hands but she’s exclusively breast fed for the most part but accepts bottles just fine. i have all my pumping parts packed and will pump when baby normally eats but i don’t want baby to forget me or have latch issues when i return!! any mommas ever experience this?

Postpartum

I’m only 3 days postpartum (FTM) and already have extremely bad anxiety. I’m crying every night, as I think of another night of no sleep. My baby will not settle in his cot, he cries every moment we put him down unless in his chair rocker. So me and my partner are having to alternate after 3/4 hours of being awake with him downstairs. I’m trying everything to get him to settle. It’s a load of overwhelming stress. I’m 23, I was desperate for a baby and now I have one and feel completely useless. I miss it just being me and my partner.

When does it get better?

I was crying on the phone with the perinatal mental health team today and the lovely lady, bless her, kept assuring me that it gets better. I kept telling her I hope so because people have been saying that since having my LO and it just feels like it keeps getting worse. She assured me it gets better....

Crawling

Did anyone’s little one start crawling yet? I feel like we are falling behind but really have no idea. I’m trying to introduce more floor time but it’s been rough because of having hardwood floors and our 80 lb oblivious to life dog. I got us a carpet for the living room and trying to put the dog out more when the weather allows. She sits like a pro and will roll to get the things she needs😅 but no real signs of crawling yet.

Night time routine

Heya, my 3 week old daughter is currently exclusively breastfed and I’m not pumping. Can anyone recommend the best way to share the load with my partner? At the moment I’m doing all the feeds/burbs/settling and my partner is sleeping through which obviously isn’t sustainable, I’m trying to work out the best way to get him involved. Any advice very much appreciated!
