I’ve noticed my son is increasingly distancing himself from me. I breastfed him for 14 months & abruptly weaned him due to early pregnancy issues. As a result, my husband took lead on putting him to bed & re-directing him when he’d want to nurse, comfort nurse etc. For 15 months, I was my sons primary source of comfort & “apple of his eye”. Present day, he runs away from me & cries if I pick up him up, asks for a hug, or attempts to comfort him when he falls or is afraid. In my place, he’s super close to his dad & reaches towards him when I’ve picked up him. Of course, I love their bond. However, there’s a part of me that really misses the connection and feels heartbroken with the unrelenting rejection.
I know this is a “fortunate” problem to have in that my son is now comforted most by his second parent. Regardless, I’m devastated, feel disconnected & keep trying to find creative fun ways to engage…& this kid ain’t having it. Any tips, coping mechanisms, encouragement.. a mama needs it.😩

My son goes back and forth between his dad and I. Try to think of it from dad’s perspective - it is sooo nice for them to shine too! Enjoy the little break. He will be back. Kids have phases and change abruptly. This is only small amount of time in the grand scheme of things and I’m sure you will look back on it lovingly. Sending all my love!

I also breastfed until 12mo and noticed the change after we weaned!

Thanks so much Kelly. This is helpful & encouraging to know. ♥️
