It shouldn’t take that long but do keep at it until breast is empty so you get a good supply. What pump are you using? Do you have the correct size? That affects the results

yeah it takes about 30-40mins each side. I’m using medela swing flex.. any other pump you recommend that works more efficiently?

The spectra S2 or anything “hospital grade” make sure the flanges are the correct fit as well.
Surprisingly though a manual pump worked wonders when my electric pump stopped working for a day.

Oh no it should not take that long. That sounds draining. I ordered a nice pump while pregnant but since have started using this $89 hands free pump from Amazon. I’m empty on average 15-20 mins. I never pump more than 20 mins. There’s a $20 coupon Right now for it.

That might be a stupid question, especially 4 months pp lol, but how do you ladies know when you are empty? Do you actually feel it or is there just nothing more coming out?

I’m new to this lol but my breast go from being hard to squishy again and they no longer feel super heavy. I get this tingly sensation when it’s time to pump and when i squeeze my boobs i can feel the milk inside them.

Thanks ladies, that’s how it feels for me too, usually it takes me between 15 and 20 min max depending on how full they are

Make sure you are using the right sized flange

soft!

I like to do 2 minute massage, 6 minutes pump and then 2 minute massage again until I empty or hit around 18-20min. The lactation consultant told me not to exceed 20minutes but it was too late and now I have an excessive oversupply which is something you really don't want.

If you have FB, there’s pumping groups on there and they help out a lot! I wish I knew about it before

Honestly since she was born I have pumped 6 times a day for 7 minutes each session. I know everyone tells me that's too short but she is 5 months now and weighs almost 17 pounds so that works for me.
