Having a big baby and being insecure about it

My 17 week old little boy is weighing a whopping 17.5lb and in the 90th percentile and almost in 6-9 month clothing. I get really upset by people constantly commenting on his size saying he is a chunk. I feel bad that I am getting so worked up about and I feel like I am doing something wrong like over feeding him. He has been feeding a lot more these past couple of days too and I don’t know if it’s comfort feeding as he is badly teething at the moment. He seems happy and healthy enough though but I am constantly worrying about his size

He is so adorable and cuddly , you should be proud that he is well fed and happy😍 my son’s weight is close to that and he is around the same age. Ignore any negative comments, you’re doing a great job and taking very good care of your little one.💪🏼

Avatar

My boy is 16 weeks as 16.3 he was born 9.2lbs! Just means we have more chunk to cuddle!😍

Avatar

My baby is going 14 weeks and 11lbs
She was prem
But people say aww she’s tiny! And it bothers me haha she’s in 1-3 months! So works both ways xxxx

Avatar

He is bloody gorgeous! My 14 week boy is almost 18lbs (11lbs at birth). People always comment on his size for his age but I love it xx

Avatar

Please don’t worry! My little boy is 15 weeks tomorrow and he’s 17lbs, he is a chunk but I’m proud of that, he’s healthy and happy and that’s all that matters! In about a week or so I’ll be having to up him to 6-9 clothes too x

Avatar

he is gorgeous and looks so happy! 💙

Avatar

He looks healthy, mum you're doing a good job xx

Avatar

He’s absolutely gorgeous and looks so healthy so I wouldn’t worry!! Everyone loves a big buba

Avatar

Your son looks happy and healthy and that’s all that matters! My son is 4.5 months and is roughly 12lbs. He had to come out at 38 weeks as he wasn’t growing and was 5lbs on the dot when we left hospital. Still to this day I’m told he is tiny and one of my friends took offence to all these comments but I don’t care because I know he is healthy and gaining even if it is slow. It’s a catch 22 situation that will have people talking regardless, you don’t need to worry about baby gaining weight, he is still healthy

Avatar

Aww don’t feel bad, he’s bloody gorgeous 😍 we’re in 6-9month clothes at 17 weeks too as he’s 98th percentile for length…it all evens out eventually once they start moving around more xx

Avatar

This happened with my first who was always on 95th centile and everyone called him a big baby and I hated it. But my second has now dropped from 97th to 69th centile and I hate that I can't give me enough milk. Be kind to yourself you are doing an awesome job!

Avatar

Also he's now nearly 4 and is slim and very average sized!

Avatar

Don't let those comments annoy u, I think they are cutest when they are all chunky (and clearly happy) if anything all. Signs of a good healthy baby

Both of mine were chunky and as they hit the toddler stage they stretched out to really skinny Minnie's so count ur blessings and ignore the comments ❤️

Avatar

He looks perfectly happy and healthy 😍 ur doing a great job I wouldn’t worry people comment on anything and everything just leave them 2 it x

Avatar

I’ve had two big babies, they have both always ended up off the centile chart. My health visitor ended up telling us to go to the GP to get a referral to see a paediatrician, so we did. And the paediatrician told me that it’s just genetics, my side of the family are all tall and my partner has a big rugby physique.

People were asking me if my eldest who will turn 3 in February was starting school this year, I was like he’s not even 3 yet 🙃 he’s just a big boy! I totally understand feeling insecure about it though as I often do. But as long as you’ve had them checked by the GP or health visitor if you are really concerned then that’s all you can do. But I think you’re all good and he is gorgeous xxx

Avatar

He is perfect! Such a cutie 🥰

Avatar

Hey, hes growing ignore what others say… someone always has to say something i find! Xx

Avatar

Ermmmm he is PERFECT gurl

Avatar

Oh he’s so lovely!! Don’t worry, our girl is heavy too - 91st for weight and 99th for head circumference 😂

Avatar

He’s gorgeous. Please don’t pay attention to people. As long as he’s healthy, that’s all that matters♥️

Avatar

My little girl is 18 weeks and 18 lbs EBF so I can’t overfeed her 😊

Avatar

He looks adorable , you have done a great job

Avatar

My daughter is 14 months and is 28 pounds and 31 inches she was wearing 12 month clothes at 6 months don't stress it chunky babies are so cute and once he is walking and eating regular food He will slim up. Don't feel insecure about it I did at first.

Avatar

He is such a cutie, don’t listen to anyone 🥰

Avatar

Aww he is the cutest little bambino please don't stop feeding him as much as you are , he looks like a healthy baby xx

Avatar

Wouldn’t worry. A big baby is healthy no? Would only worry about size if he was underweight scrawny and not eating. Plus not to mention your baby is 17.5 at 17 weeks … my baby is 18lb at 9 weeks lol.

Avatar

I have the same all the time with my LG and the thing is your not feeding a lot because baby’s won’t take it if that’s the case ignore everyone every child is different I constantly worry about my daughters but her dads big xx

Avatar

What a cutie!!!! Thanks for posting this. I have the opposite where my little one is super tall, but very lean. People keep commenting how tiny she is, and at times, it makes me insecure as if I’m not feeding her enough - and I am! It really makes you think twice about commenting on peoples bodies, no matter how old they are.

Avatar

It’s healthy ! I personally don’t have big baby I’ve got the opposite , people telling me he’s too skinny when he’s eating more than enough and my little is 16 pound at 6 months. You can never over feed a baby they will tell you when they’ve had enough and will be sick if they know it’s too much ! Xxx

Avatar

He looks happy and healthy ! You clearly doing a wonderful job mumma

Avatar

Don’t stress out. Your son is healthy if their was a problem your health visitor or someone who checks up on the baby would mention something so he’s obviously okay. The people who weigh him would mention if something was up. He’s a lonely chunky boy!

Avatar

Girl don’t feel bad. That’s one healthy boy! My 14 month old girl weighs over 30 lbs already and according to google the average size of a 14 months old girl is like 22 lbs. Happy healthy chunk over here, 99th percentile and staying steady

Avatar

More chunks to bite that’s all! He’s the cutest thing! 🤤😬 it could be a soothing thing, my little one did that during the awful colic stage and I pushed myself to slow it down. Now she’s teething again with her 2nd tooth and all she wants is the bottle and anything to bite doesn’t even care too much for the frozen tethers. Girl. As long as he’s happy and healthy don’t even worry. He’s going to slim out once he starts rolling around and being more active. Keep it up! 🤍

Avatar

Growth spurts does cause cluster feeding. Which is probably what you must be experiencing. Your baby is really cute. You're doing a good job.

Avatar

He's perfect and so cute 🥰
My daughter was in the 90th percentile for a while but just for length and stays around the 30th percentile for weight but that's just her normal. I've def felt that insecurity but for the opposite comments about her weight. She's happy and healthy though. I wouldn't worry. He looks great! I'm sure the comments are all meant as a compliment.

Avatar

My LG was 12lb 3oz at 9 weeks old was in 3-6 months old by 10 weeks and is 91st percentile in height/head circumference and is EBF. I had people assume she was 4 months old at 10 weeks 😅She's now 14 weeks old and probably around 15-17lbs There's nothing to be worried about, furthermore who doesn't love a chunky baby 🥰. Enjoy all his little rolls now he might lose them when he starts moving about 😩

Avatar

He is sooo gorgeous! You’re doing an amazing job mumma! My son was in the 80th percentile and he was a chunka (still is) also but I loved it sooo much the chunkier the better 🥰

Avatar

My boy is 10 weeks in the 88% wearing 3-6 months clothing. He weighs 13 lbs

Avatar

They even out. Most don’t want to eat while teething so that’s a plus. When they’re non walking, esp the pudge + breast milk weight, etc, so many factors. Ppl forget weight distribution in babies is not the same as any other stage & imo those charts from the WHO & CDC are biased by a lot of demographic incongruence. The sad part is when they start losing the pudge so delight in this stage cuz once their face gets angular & they lose the baby weight, you will be only left with pics of their cute chubbiness

Avatar

Don't mind people, they would say to skinny.. or to short.. just love your baby (and each moment) Thales grow so fast and time is the biggest thief!!! You baby is so wonderfully healthy and that's a blessings to be celebrated ✨️💕💕💕💕💕

Avatar

My 7 month old is like 23 pounds? He’s huge! But he’s big and healthy and that’s all I could ask for. They thin out a lot when they start crawling and walking!

Avatar

My boy was the same but he somehow managed to get rid of the weight did ask me how but he did

Avatar

I’m in the same boat. My 10 week old is 16lbs and 25in the 95th percentile wearing 3-6m clothes. I keep reminding myself that he is very proportional and yours appears to be too. We have healthy babies and the sizing on baby clothes are based on average sizes. Based on your post it sounds like you are breastfeeding (so am I) we have to trust that our bodies are doing what they are supposed to and that is feeding our babies exactly what they need. ❤️🥰

Avatar

My baby is pretty big and people are always surprised he’s only 4 months but I think that’s a compliment! It’s healthy for babies to be chunky at this age, and a lot of it is probably that they are tall

Avatar

I don’t condone violence ever but people who comment on babies like this deserve a good punch in the face.

There is nothing more cute & beautiful than a chunky, healthy & happy baby! It’s like these folks are brain dead and forget that some kiddos are big…bc it’s genetics 😮😮😮 shocking, I know.

Body shaming a baby, that’s the wildest thing ever.

Avatar

Almost forgot, my cousin is a very chunky baby always has been he’s barely 1 and almost 3 stone. But recently he’s shaken off some of the weight cause of walking but he’s till got tree trunks for legs and he’s quite broad. He gets it from his dad so it’s genetics lovely and your baby is very healthy so be proud x

Avatar

My first was (and still is) in the 99th centile, absolutely huge. I loved his chunkiness! He's now 3 and in size 5-6, and I still love it. He's an adorable, tall, solid, happy little human!

Avatar

My son is 16wks n is in 6-9 month clothes he last got weighed at 11wk n he weighed 14lb13 then, I’m hoping to get him weighed next week, but I stand on scales n then stand on them with him n *estimately* he weighs 20lb now …

Avatar

My baby was weighed today at 7 weeks ⚖️ weighing 12 lbs 2. I’m happy he’s a chunky baby it’s the cutest & it’s healthy to gain weight x

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

Weaning

Hello mamas, could I get some advice please with how and what to wean as started this week with my baby but not really what to give and when what time day. Have started with puree vegetables and making them myself and offering it in the evening to my baby but she tends to get irritated and tired and has a few spoonfulls and then gives up and has a meltdown. So I’m questioning myself am I feeding her wrong time of day and what’s best to mix the food with milk or baby rice please.

Do I need to pay anything when my child starts school in September

I'm a new mum and obviously didn't grow up in the uk. I currently pay roughly £640 for nursery fees. I'm wondering if my expenses will reduce when my LO starts school or there'll be other expenses (besides bags, uniform etc) will my expenses be anywhere close to £600 monthly?
