Hi everyone,
My LG just turned 18 months old today, which has made me, well, panic a little bit about what she should be doing.
I feel like she’s completely dominated the “physical world” - she walks proficiently, runs, somersaults, jumps. Her fine movements are incredible and she’s got a pincer grasp like nothing I’ve ever seen in a baby her age.
She has, however, what is apparently ZERO interest in talking. She’s super spacey, so she hardly ever notices when we call out her name except when she’s doing something she knows she shouldn’t be doing, and she jumps up when she hears it. We’re a bilingual family, so I’m wondering whether this has any impact? She could say a few words aged 8 months (!), but she started crawling and it all went downhill. She’s just so uninterested, I try to sit down and play with her but all she wants to do is run around and act silly. She babbles a lot, like she’s trying to talk to us, but nothing discernible ever comes out. She’s overall a happy, smiley baby, loves attention, just seems uninterested in talking. Is this normal? Should I be concerned or looking for a referral to a speech therapist? Thank you.

Not sure if this is any help but my little boy was also born 5th July! Assuming your daughter was too.
He can also walk, run, do roly polys and has a fab pincer grasp too but has absolutely no interest in talking either. He just grunts at everything. We say what he's pointing too but like I say he's not really interested yet. I'm just going to see how it develops and speak to health visitor at next review if it doesn't improve. I think they'll get there, they just do it in their own time. But obviously if you are really concerned let your HV know. I personally would give her a little more time xx
thank you for your reply! Yes she was born 5th July too 🥰 happy half birthday to your boy! That’s exactly what she’s doing. She can communicate in her own way, just using words is not something she’s interested in at all. Thank you for your words, I’ll be hoping for the best. It doesn’t help when you inevitably compare your little to others their own age. Also I was a super overachiever as a baby so constantly have my mum in my ear saying “oh by her age you could do X Y Z I wonder what’s wrong with her!”😢

My little girl is the exact same ! She was walking at 10 months, now she’s 16 she climbs everything. She use to say baba and clap but now hasn’t attempted to say a word. She doesn’t clap, wave or point and doesn’t listen to any sort of command. Has no idea what her name is. I told my HV and they have referred her for a hearing and eye test

My little boy is 18 months old. I spoke to the health visitor about his talking. She said as long as he's trying to make sounds like my son will say ba for bath or ink for drink. He only says a handful of things.
He's the same as your little girl
They say if they can't say 5 words by the age of 2. But speak to your health visitor if you're worried. Just remember every baby is different! My friend baby can speak a lot at 16 months but isn't walking or interested in walking c

As Tia mentioned I find a lot of babies I know are either walking or talking - my son started walking just before he turned 1 however doesn’t have much interest in talking yet either. I was at the GP the other day and asked whether I should worry but she said it’s generally one or the other too but that I can mention it to the HV - the thing is I haven’t seen one for my son since he was 2 weeks old and I’m not sure when we have his next ‘review’ like the 1 year one?! so not sure how I contact them?

@Sev you have a review when there one and two and half. You can find a contact number online for your HV in your area :)
