When did you start to offer finger foods and self feeding? Prolonged spoon feeding can make the transition take longer so I'd just keep offering and modeling for him.

Mine is picky as well but if I’m eating the same thing, it usually motivates him. My son also played with his food but I stayed consistent and kept putting food in front of him. I would pick up his food from his tray and then feed it to him. He finally got the hang of it but sometimes he throws it or misses his mouth.

You can also try picking up the food and handing it to him and see if he will feed that way. You can also try a bowl of any puree and just leave it in front of him. Prepare for a mess but he will put his fingers in there and hopefully lick his fingers (self feeding!) And this can also help him get the idea

We started at 6 months with BLW and it is a slow process. You show baby how to do it and then you kinda leave them be. It’s a lot of exploration and playing with the food before baby is comfortable self feeding. Baby is 1 now and self feeds. Lots of patience
