Splitting of chores in the house ?

Can I please ask for those who don’t mind sharing how do you and your partner split the chores in the house and how did you come to the arrangement? Or do you just always feel you do a lot more “just because” you’re a woman and you feel it’s expected (sounds so sexist I know 😞) now I’m a mother who intends to go back to work soon I refuse to tire myself out doing it all like I have been pre pregnancy I want to come to some kind of arrangement that’s involves us both contributing to the chores as fairly as possible

At the moment I’d say I do 90% as I’m on maternity and not at work. He does the bins and the dishwasher if he has time in the morning.

When I go back to work, I’d like to hope he will help at the weekends. I very much imagine I’ll have to instruct him though. He’s happy to put the hoover round or Change bedsheets.

Like Amy I do 90% at the moment on maternity leave. I'm dropping a day of work when I go back so will still do more chores than he does, however I plan to instruct him so he does his share. He doesn't notice things need doing like I do so wll need instructing or a list to work from, I have to watch as he will often "help" by organising his drawers if left to his own devices and I find myself explaining that it doesn't count unless its for everyone/more than just him! Xxx

Honestly this is one of the main arguments in my house of how much I do compared to him. I don’t see maternity leave as a holiday, if anything looking after our LB is harder than being at work yet I still do more than 90% of the work in the house, yet I’m still doing night feeds (which are back after being gone for 2 months 🙃) as well as getting up with baby too. I also totally agree with Abbey that my partner just doesn’t see things need doing (eg bathroom bin is full, empty it. Washing basket full. Put a wash on) and I also have to leave a list and it drives me up the wall. I’m not his mother. We’re meant to be partners. It’s not equal at all. I’m going back to work full time and he will be doing a lot more when I go back as I refuse to burn myself out. I think we will end up with a list of what needs doing and when then he does it dependant on shifts x

It's something we never really spoke about as it kind of just fell into place, but we more or less do 50% each in the household chores. Being a SAHM I'm doing most of the parenting, but once my partner is home from work, he takes over, so then I catch up on any chores and cook us dinner. If you need extra help and support, then i would sit him down and ask regardless. You shouldn't be taking most of the workload. You should be working as a team & you're absolutely right about equal contribution! ☺️

We have always been pretty 50/50 at home. He does all cooking, food shopping and admin (eg. Making sure bills are payed etc). I do washing and cleaning and most stuff around the baby. When I go back to work we might work out how to split tasks around the baby, like take every other night or something if that’s needed. But yeah, I would definitely not be happy doing everything at home!

But we also have the rule to never complain on each others ‘department’. Most of the time both of us are pretty good at keeping up on our stuff. But I would never make any comments on what he chooses to cook or if dinner happens to get very late one night or something like that. And he would never comment on the house being a mess or the laundry basket overflowing😅

I do the majority (currently on mat leave) however I always have. This isn’t anything against my husband, we just absolutely have different standards etc - this isn’t to say he doesn’t like a clean house, he just isn’t as particular as me so! Saying that we’ve just sort of fallen into jobs that he always does - ie changing cat litter, bins, vacuuming stairs, paying bills, (aka all the jobs I hate he was happy to take on 🤣). We share cooking dinner depending on who is less tired and it just works. He also knows that of a weekend, I always wants to blitz the whole house so just gets on board and does it with me - no specific ‘split’ jobs, we just make sure everything is all done between us to be honest

My husband has set jobs that he knows he has to do, sometimes he probably does more than me 😂
His jobs are bins, hoovering and putting the bedsheets on, he also does all the garden maintenance.
Once the children are in bed we both have a quick tidy round of the toys. Generally I cook dinner and he does the dishwasher after but always forgets to wipe the sides down 😡. He was the last one to clean the bathrooms. I do all the washing and drying of clothes but we both do the putting away.

I tend to do the keep on-top of the house being chaos jobs and he will do a big clean job. However when I go back to work we will probably hire a cleaner.

99 percent me. I'm old school. He does help when doing some house work in mornings before we are going out. Makes me a coffee before going to work if that counts🤣

We used to fight a lot about some chores. Partly about their execution and timeliness. So we went super OCD with planning- we wrote all the chores, graded them by difficulty and then equally shared them. We do help out each other though sometimes. And, especially now and since pregnancy, as I don’t always have time or free hands to do some things but I’m happy to do others instead. We have forgotten schedule a bit now but might do again when I return to work.

Hey everyone my baby is 5 months old and I want to reduce/cut screen time as I have read up on how bad it is what activities did people do to keep their baby entertained. Thank you in advance.

My friend is over from another country but I don't feel like leaving the house

One of my old friend's is visiting where I currently live and we agreed to meet up today but I feel so tired and exhausted from everything that's been going on with me. I feel if I meet her I'm going to end up having another breakdown from the exhaustion which I have been having often. I'm just thinking about how I need to rest to be able to deal with my toddler and go back to work on Monday without feeling like I need another weekend. I'm torn on what to do so I need you guys to help me decide

Post partum dad

I have a 2 month old. A few weeks ago my husband crashed out because he didn't feel like he was getting to bond with her. I started exclusively breastfeeding around that time and honestly didnt see the big deal. Baby and I left for a few days and when we got back home, everything was fine. He was extremely hands-on. He helped with my meals, her bedtime, bath, stories.....for a few weeks it was great. Then he randomly sounds depressed af. He says our lo is better off without him, he wants to sleep all day , he asks me not to watch tv then tried playing a video game. He refused to reply to me when i asked any follow-up questions. Then he woke up our baby trying to race me to the bathroom first thing in the morning . He's doing a weird mix of crying, trying, and giving up. Im starting to feel like I cant handle him not being able to handle life with baby and just want to be alone. Are there resources for men?

Weaning

Hello mamas, could I get some advice please with how and what to wean as started this week with my baby but not really what to give and when what time day. Have started with puree vegetables and making them myself and offering it in the evening to my baby but she tends to get irritated and tired and has a few spoonfulls and then gives up and has a meltdown. So I’m questioning myself am I feeding her wrong time of day and what’s best to mix the food with milk or baby rice please.

Do I need to pay anything when my child starts school in September

I'm a new mum and obviously didn't grow up in the uk. I currently pay roughly £640 for nursery fees. I'm wondering if my expenses will reduce when my LO starts school or there'll be other expenses (besides bags, uniform etc) will my expenses be anywhere close to £600 monthly?
