Baby is 14 months old and I've never left him with a friend or family member. He hasn't been the easiest baby, never took to formula or bottles and I couldn't express, stranger danger kicked in very young and although it has improved, has never fully gone away and he's a super clingy mamas boy so I've just found it easier not to even try leaving him. He goes to nursery 4 days a week and although that was difficult at the beginning he settled a lot quicker than I thought and absolutely loves it and adores the staff but the only way I get me time, outside of work, is when I book him into nursery for a day during the school holidays (I'm a teacher so he only goes term time). Anyone else in a similar position??? I see people who have babies younger than mine, leaving baby all the time and they seem to have great social lives but I'm just holding on to the hope/thought that this situation will change as he gets older. He has family members who adore him but I just don't feel he sees them enough to be left with them yet. And Dad is great but works permanent nights through the week so then time together at the weekend is precious. Not entirely sure what the purpose of this post is, maybe to seek advice or just reassurance that I'm not the only one!

We haven't either. We didn't really have many options, grandparents adore him but work or wouldn't feel confident on their own as he can be really clingy. He struggled with nursery but is now settled. We have just this month gone out for a few hours in evening after putting him to bed with someone at ours, but only recently as I wouldn't want anyone else to try and settle him if he woke upset. I do occasionally see friends in the evening and leave him with dad and he's absolutely fine. Could you try for a short time in your own home so that baby is more comfortable and playing with their own things?

My baby is very socialble and confident but only is ever with me or my partner. Once stayed with my mum whilst i got my hair done for couple hours. Has never been to nursery. I work 15-20 hours a week but luckily her dad can have her when im at work and i have her when hes at work. I wouldnt have it any other way tho at this age. I get time to myself in the evenings a bit once shes gone to sleep. Maybe when she is between 2-3 ill think about nursery for few days. Shes 14 months atm x
Thank you for responding! That's what my mum has suggested, that she will come over to our house and watch him here so that he's in his own house with his toys etc. I just get so anxious at the thought of it but want to eventually be in a position where I confidently let his grandparents, aunties and uncles etc, spend time with him on their own. My brother has 3 children and by this age, I had looked after all 3 of his children, multiple times, so I just keep thinking where have I gone wrong?!

Same with my 13 month old except she’s literally never been away from us. We don’t feel comfortable leaving her with people (nursery etc) until she’s fully able to articulate herself, just incase anything happens to her and she can’t tell us.
She could stay with my mum but she already has her hands full as i have a disabled brother she is a full time carer for. The rest of my daughters family from her dad all live abroad so I have only ever left her with him so that I could have some time for myself and it is not often because he also works full time. I’m just going with my gut and the idea that when she is ready to be left with people we will know, plus both baby and parents will be confident because we can have a conversation to explain that we will always come back to help with the separation anxiety. I don’t think it’s too far anyway, because she’s already picking up so many words. I think by December she will be having proper conversations and we can talk about leaving her

No never left mine he is sociable goes to playgroups loves seeing the other babies etc not left like sees family members but wouldn't be comfortable leaving him yet but all babies are different x

Ahh I feel you! My boy is so clingy! He doesn't go to nursery either so that doesn't help, I do one 24 hour shift a week and my mum has him, he does settle with her but she's the only one! I can't even have family or friends at the house because he just screams 🙈 I took him into work with me last week for an hour and he just sobbed. He even wakes up at least 5 times a night crying so I don't know if he even feels separation anxiety at night 🙈 I don't have any advice but I do look at sociable babys and feel envious. Edit: I did actually take him to see father Christmas once and he strangely loved the Grinch and was all over him laughing and cuddling, but normal people that don't wear a green mask, nope, screams constantly

You have gone wrong no were!! This is quite a clingy age but they do adapt. So your baby adapted to nursery and will defo adapt to grandparents etc! You can just start of small amounts of time then slowly build it up kind of thing. Like half an hour, then 1 hour etc so you will feel more comfortable that way x

I think sometimes they are more resilient than we think they are.
I’d do as others have suggested and lead with your mum in your own home, maybe just go around the corner to grab a coffee so you are close and see how they do.

Didn’t even read the rest of this aside from the caption because: yes. I haven’t. Left baby with dad literally 3 times in 14 months. 2 dentist appointments and a haircut. You don’t what’s right for you!

My boy sounds like yours. His temperament is so sensitive in fact we decided against daycare for now so I work part time from home and I drop him off for short 2-3 hour visits at my MILs. Since about 6 months old I went to MILs every day with him so he got used to her and the environment. When he was 11mo I started leaving him there for short stints and he would cry but she would distract him. Now he loves going there to play and doesn’t mind the drop off. But he doesn’t nap there, I pick him up and take him home for milk and contact nap. He doesn’t eat a lot of solids so I don’t like to leave him more than a few hours.
I couldn’t leave him anywhere with anyone else, only MIL because we put that work in and it’s like a daycare for him.
