Found this very useful chart from a speech language pathologist and thought I'd share. How are your kids doing? Are they ahead, behind, or right on the mark?

average! Though I've stopped counting

We had to get evaluated bc my son is behind. We're starting speech therapy soon.

I always wondered should I be counting how many words he knows. Lol.
@Domonique I think it's only important to count to make sure they are meeting the milestone, but past that, it's just wasting time...my son says 180+ words....I counted 🤦♀️ curiosity got the better of me 🤣
@Faye I don't think pronunciation matters at this age. I believe it starts to matter more as they get older

Mine only says 5 words but he's in speech therapy.

Mine is somewhere between the milestone and average. Shes 19 mo and getting more words daily tho. So I'm def not concerned. The only thing she isnt doing it combing words. Like 2 in a row.

If this is not endorsed by AAP I am not following it

Above expected range and combining 2-3 words at a time. She’s a little chatterbox haha

as a speech therapist this is pretty accurate for developmental milestones in speech.
@Kayla thank you for confirming!
