Hey everyone!
I'm planning to start weaning my baby in the next week or 2 as she gets to 6 months and planning on doing BLW. My little one has be EBF this whole time and I understand that it needs to be transitioned but I don't actually know what this looks like to begin with. Does she start with one meal? Do I give this to her in the morning or afternoon? Do I keep the feeds the same? When do I transition to 2 meals ect. I've read books and looked up videos but I'm not 100% sure how this looks to begin with.. any advice would be greatly appreciated! Xx

I'm an EBF mom as well. What I did was start with breakfast. So she would wake up, have her milk and about an hour later would feed her food. Then built up to 3 meals doing the same thing. So milk first and then an hour ish later have food. It can vary based on how often your baby wants milk but this way they're coming a little hungry but not so hungry they get agitated it's not milk.

how did you know when to introduce another meal? X

thank you x

When I saw she was actually wanting to eat at one meal consistently

Are you on fb? There is a great group “weaning the BLW way”, the admin really know their stuff and would be able to guide you and answer any questions

@Nina I'm on the group but don't seem to see much in terms of introducing just lots of examples of blw food

I started with 1 meal (evening for us) so that we could eat together as a family. Then when she started eating a good amount and we were all confident and consistent, and it felt well established we introduced lunch. Then once that was established we did breakfast.
The only guidance I’ve seem is that by 10m they should be on 3 meals a day.

Every baby is different. Just start with small tastes at a time when she is happy and not hungry or tired. It shouldn’t replace breast feeds at this point but she may take less as weaning progresses. Stick to veggies to begin with, one taste at a time, whole (soft cooked) or mashed (she shouldn’t need blended at 6 months tbh) and then try introducing fruits and then other textures as you progress. I run weaning classes so if you have any questions just shout up. HENRY and solid starts have some good resources.

thank you. Would you mind if I messaged you privately? X

thank you, that's really helpful! X

not at all 🙂
