I know this is not the right platform to ask this question but I really need someone to educate me on this my husband and i filed for tax jointly and we have a daughter i dont work my husband does. But we come under low income family so the tax return my husband will be getting around $8k that was told by who filed the tax. The tax refund he is getting he is saying is actually the money deducted from his income so he is getting it back. My question is that money for me also as I’m unemployed maybe i’m also getting some unemployment benefits? It’s not that he will not spend the money on us but we filed jointly and he is the one getting back. Can anyone educate me on this

my husband and i filed jointly this year and we have one child. he works 60+ hours a week and truly deserved the full refund amount, but we figured that the refund we receive for our daughter could be my portion because im a stay at home mom and she is my full time job. i’ve never received unemployment benefits so i can’t give advice there, but i hope that helps!

So much depends on your situation and what you and your husband believe is a fair split. But at the end of the day, you are married, and the money/refund belongs to you both. Also, it is not a dollar-to-dollar calculation. So, for example, if your husband paid $8,000 total in taxes over the year, it does not mean he will get $8000 back. The government is not that generous, unfortunately. The fact that you are married and have a child entitles you to certain benefits that are only for couples who are married and file jointly. Best of luck!!
