Can anyone super knowledgeable suggest what teas are okay for early pregnancy? I had a miscarriage in my past, I was drinking TONS of chamomile tea to relax. I later found out drinking too much chamomile will cause a miscarriage. I had NO idea. I went on to have healthy pregnancies but every time I'm pregnant I crave tea. I'm dying for a cup right now, but I'm always so terrified in the beginning. I've just been drinking hot lemon water but if anyone knows a good suggestion I'd be so happy to find something! Thanks!

Hi, I study teas (in a process of getting a tea sommelier certification) and have a local tea shop in Canada (Fleurpalace.ca). There are many tea varieties that you can drink in pregnancy:
1. Any teas without caffeine. This includes
- Rooibos teas or so-called red tea.
- Ivan tea or Ivan chai. It has a strong taste similar to black teas but is produced from herbs. It is also a wonderful tea that helps with fighting viruses. 100% safe in pregnancy.
2. Majority of high quality white teas. Many of them grow in high altitudes and contain much less caffeine compared to regular teas. Here you can also try Pearl teas. Focus on high quality organic varieties.
3. Low caffeine teas with mint. It helps with anxiety and is safe in pregnancy.
4. You can brew teas with low or medium caffeine content in a tea pot to control its concentration. Ex try to avoid brewing teas in a cup and leaving leaves or a tea bag there.
5. Pick a good base green tea. Ex organic Sencha or Gyokoro

6. After you pick a base tea, add ginger or mint to it directly to improve on a flavor.
7. Avoid herbal teas. Many of them have lemongrass, ashwaganda, chamomile and other controversial herbs. I do believe herbs are medicine and taking them without deep knowledge may bring harm.
8. Avoid black teas. They are less healthy due to lack of the antioxidant effect and in general a higher caffeine content.
I personally drink these two teas (not an ad):

I hope it helps!
