Hello, my son started having purees around 5 months. He's now 6 months and he seems very keen on eating by himself. Are any mums here doing baby led weaning and can share some first foods I can try?

Our pediatrician told us this week that we should just feed our baby what we’re eating. The only things they can’t have yet are honey, popcorn, marshmallows, and added sugar. Our girl is 6 months old for reference. We’ve had her try bread, eggs, and blueberries so far

This shows ways to prepare general foods

Solid starts is a very helpful app too! Some first foods I tried: avocado, sweet potato, carrot, fish (part of list of allergen)

Brocolli is a good first food. The how to wean your baby book has a great first 30 day meal plan

My boy was on purées and I went on a baby led weaning course yesterday. They said to just feed what your having, with a few exceptions! This morning he had his first taste of toast!

@Jackie how do you give bread?

thanks, that's really helpful!

thanks, will look that up too

thanks, can you get it on Kindle?

@Alison that's great to hear, I am a bit tired to always prep separate foods for him

@Abby thanks, there's no hazard of chocking with bread that size?

the general rule is finger length strips, and the width of 2 fingers. my son was able to hold it steadily and take his own bites😊 i’d highly recommend solid starts for more info

Things like broccoli and bananas. They are soft in your mouth but easy to pick up

you must be able to, id have a look but I found it useful
